Re: 3.7l performance love

I didn't mean actually tune the stock comp, but maybe that's what they had in mind. They were getting the Chrysler software last I heard, so maybe that was their intention. I also assume it's was a smaller turbo..

They hadn't done a grand Cherokee yet so they were interested. But 6Gs is out of the question... IMO

You have to pay to play....thats not a half bad deal when you consider parts, labor, and dyno-tuning.

Best bet would be a remote turbo, it could be done in a weekend, the low IATs would be ringland friendly.

You've been reading too many car magazines. You dont need big $$$ heads and cams to make decent numbers. Are they nice to have? Sure. Are they necessary? No. Buy some valve springs that will work, about 200 bucks, swap into existing heads, and call it good.

For about a 1/3 of that, you could probably run 250rwhp (8psi), have more hp/tq than a modded 4.7 and some 5.7s, keep it safe on stock internals, and not break the bank.

I dont know how the WKs are, but 545RFE'd 4.7 WJs with the 247 case were seeing about 28% parasitic loss, more with big tires. Youre not going to see 400whp out of ANY 3.7 on 8 psi.

LOL now that you mention it I just read ike two magazines worth of MuscleCarMag and BigBlockBuilders LMAO! All they were talking about was N/A performance and of course 90% of that was head work and cam/intake/exhuast stuff so I guess I am a little in that mode right now.

And yes hemfever is the guy, my bad, hemituner is AJ in NY right, duhh?

Anyway even then like you said for half the price of a bigger build, call it $6 grand you estimated 250whp and I agree at 8lbs that sounds about right but for 6k I dont think Id personally be satisfied As far as the ring lands I do not know, I heard they were constantly failing at 2-3lbs of boost (kenne belle kit) so a new set of those and rods would be in order any way you look at it.

As far as acutual hp, Ive driven many different Jeep SRT8s and the Laredo/Limiteds weigh about the same. Knowing that I'd really want to be in the same power range or more than the 6.1 if I was going to do a build and keep the 3.7

The SRT8 feels very good in stock form at about 370whp and that is about the minimum power Id want in a rig like these. There just so heavy and uaerodynamic that off the line and getting on it on the highway they really need 350whp or more just for me to be confortable, I really do mean that. I dunno whose idea it was to put 200hp 6 cyl in 5k lb trucks but its a bad idea. I know its politics/gas etc etc but it can literally be dangerous sometimes

Sorry for the rant, but I know Im better off dropping thr $10k-$15k under the hood and having a fully built and boosted 3.7 that would not only be the FIRST but probably one of the fastest Jeeps out there. 400whp seems very attainable at that price. Just need to really dial the boost up and get the tune right and I think it'd be doable.

But you are right, THERE IS a very affordable route for guys to go to make their 3.7s muchh faster as you mentioned. Im just after the big #s.

Thats why I was trying to do the 6.1 swap for the longest time but price of the 6.1 combined with getting it all setup is well over $12k haha, did that research while ago Have the entire Dana 40 rear-end and the front carrier as well as the NV146. And I know exactly what the TCM needs and a BB VB would be on order. Driveline is totally adressed and ready, just still dont have the power figured out, the last piece of the puzzle

Options really comeback to either building the 3.7 for the hell of it or the likley route that seems ever approaching . . . save every penny, sell off the SRT8 parts I have laying around and trade this thing in when its paid off and go after a newer SRT8

Re: 3.7l performance love

Sorry i havnt been updating, been busy and havnt been on. But its great that it looks like more 3.7 performance is available.

as for the manifolds (dont know if it has been said yet) i think the difference in the manifolds are the mounting points for the coil packs. 08 and prior run 6 coil packs as the 09-10 run a slave system, only 3 coil packs on the drivers side. so besides that i think they are the same.

Re: 3.7l performance love

Hey you guys I am new to all this and I might have missed something but I agree 3.7s are the business! One question though! what do you guys recommend for an intake for a 06 Grand Cherokee for a good price preferably K&N. I really want to start getting into modifying my Jeep. Hella stoked!

Re: 3.7l performance love

Just finished porting my first 3.7 manifold today...came out pretty well i think. Looking forward to seeing how it works. Think the stock manifold leaves some power on the table.

You gotta start somewhere! And a CAI is a good start. I have the K&N fipk 57 series on my '05(same as yours) snagged mine on eBay for about $280? With shipping

Then you should get
-ported Throttle body
-exhaust(super 44, I have a clip on here of mine)
- then the SCT programmer from Hemifever
