Re: 3.7l performance love

ive dissected the stock mid pipes (Y-pipe) even further, I didn't pay much attention to it before cuz I dumped the cats, but it matters now that they are back in place. so heres what I found:

1: the stock pipe APPEARS TO BE 2 1/2 inch in diameter, but it is only the external diameter.

2: there is 3 layers to the stock mid pipes, the outer layer, a mesh material that rapes sawzall blades, and a inner layer of the same material as the outer layer.

3: the inner layer measures a measly 2 1/8 inch diameter.

at the time the cats were off the inner diameter didn't really matter as I wanted the exhaust velocity to be high with a full flow thru setup. now with the cats on, its a huge choke point, and the collectors on the jba headers measures at 2 1/2. it seems to make more sense to me to upgrade the mid pipe to a full 2 1/2 with the cats to maintain the awesome mid range power I hade when the cats were off...

long story short, I will be prototyping a new mid pipe. Magnaflow makes one but if its oem spec then it will do me no good even if mandrel bent if the sizes are the same

well if you want an idea of how it will sound watch some of my vids, ive tried many setups and the biggest difference in them is loudness and the pitch of the exhaust. the overall tone stays the same. but im always looking for something new and different...

my more recent setups have been more on the extreme side of loud, from the loudest on straight headers to headers and cats, to headers no cats and glasspacks, to headers no cats and FM Super 44, to headers no cats dynomax cat back, to headers and cats on dynomax, to just the dynomax, to just a thrust turbo

the above listed is from loudest to quietest

Re: 3.7l performance love

PERFORMANC UPDATE: I have completed another project. I have hand ported my intake manifold. here is what I have noticed:

-I have finally removed the dead spot in my rpm range (aprox. 2800)
-Initial power delivery is smoother
-I noticed the truck pulls a little better above 3,000 rpm
-I noticed the truck pulls longer, to the redline now instead of falling off around 5600 rpm
-highway passing power is improved...

need more time to assess fuel mileage affects
