Re: 3.7l performance love

Where would you recommend getting a throttle body from, and about how much will it run me?

I sell them, and so does The Fastman. Right now I am out of 3.7 castings and am a little busy, so if you're looking for a 05-06 3.7 TB I would advise going to him.

Re: 3.7l performance love

On another note....

So I ported a TB for someone who I think is buying one for his '09 JK. I know the 3.7 and 3.8 have the same TB part number- I was online double checking this as I heard it secondhand from someone else and wanted to confirm.

In the process, I discovered that the 3.7, the 3.8, and the 08-10 4.7 ALL have the same TB bolt pattern. Meaning, one COULD bolt up a 4.7 TB to a 2007-2010 3.7. or 3.8 if you have a JK. JK owners are calling this the "Viper TB" because the Vipers actually use the same TB as the 4.7...it just uses 2 of them.

I have never ported a 2008+ 4.7 TB, so I never made this realization.

While this is great for 3.7/3.8 owners alike, there is one problem. The intake manifold inlet, as memory serves me, is about 67mm at most. A stock 4.7/Viper TB is 74mm. That means there is a 7mm discrepancy between TB and intake manifold inlet. Thats a 3.5mm ring that sticks right on the path of air. Thats about 1/6" of an inch. Its one thing if the manifold inlet is bigger than the TB, but when the TB is bigger- this much bigger- than the manifold inlet, you are leaving power, and potentially efficiency on the table. Not to say the bigger TB doesnt provide gains, Im sure it does, but with that kind of mismatch, how well is it really working?

The 3.7 intake manifold can be ported for increased power. JeepKid loves his. And it can be ported to match the Viper TB. But I think for those with unported manifolds, a ported stock TB might be the best option.

Re: 3.7l performance love

How much do the stock viper TBs run? And will jumping a whole 10mm hurt at all? Seems silly, but didnt you mention velocity is better than mass?

They wont work on yours, its for 07-10 3.7/3.8s only.

It depends on how much flow and velocity we are talking about. You CAN have too much velocity. We'll never see that in any of these cases but there is a such thing. Basically you want the most (or within say 5-10%) flow WITH the highest velocity possible. This becomes more critical as you get closer to the intake valve.

The Viper TB on a 07-10 3.7 is overkill...not only is it 7mm (really 9mm because of the way the manifold inlet is tapered in) larger than the manifold opening but you may see some loss of low end because of a lack of velocity/turbulence due to the significant mismatch between TB and manifold inlet.

Re: 3.7l performance love

Ok so i've read threw the thread, and still unclear. Is the SCT discussed only for 3.7 06' and earlier years? If so, is there anything for the 07'+ years? I'm no gear head, and I would just like a noticeable gain in MPG's and HP. What would be the most conservative way to go, without breaking the bank but still noticing the gains. Thanks in advance

Re: 3.7l performance love

To see increased mpg the most would be the SCT, but it's only for 05-06. I've heard of hypertech offering one for 07+ but I haven't read anything from someone actually getting one.

But my gains can only be expected because they are paired with my other mods

Hypertech is the only option for the 2007+ 3.7s.

If you're looking for a budget-minded modification that can lead to noticeable gains and increased gas mileage, I have a ported TB for a 3.7 for sale. 180.00 if you'd like it. I think the programmer is more like 350. (Saw 349.99 on Jegs.com).
