I dont think so, the older cams have a hole in the lobe for oiling that the new cams do not have.

They have a different means of oiling the cam.

The oiling holes in the 1st gen 4.7 are in the cam journals.

I really wish I had one of each to compare. I'd like to see if it could work. I'd even machine the damn thing so that it had the holes for proper oil flow.

Re: 4.7 Gen Two HO cams install?

I'd really like to know when the hell somebody like Comp Cams will make a nice set of Cams for this engine I mean with everything I getting off this site, Cams, t-body, port matching intake, heads, exhaust manifolds topped with a full dyno tune, this should be a 350-370hp screamer with minimal work.

I know someone local to me with Gen 2 heads, and a Gen 1 cam. As I recall, something would have to be done with the cam gears.

a 350-370 crank HP 4.7 requires a TB, intake, and a tuner. If that.

I know someone with a spare 08 manifold...When time allows he's probably going to have me see if there is anything to be gained out of porting it.

Ryan, here in a couple months I leave for a second tour overseas. When I get back in 2013 with newfound cash, I'm gonna be seeing you about "waking up" this gem of an engine. Maybe by then there will be cams for it too

Those cams could easily be re-ground. I already spoke to Racer Brown about doing some.

You could either do custom ground sets for ~1200 or have them re-ground by anyone with access to the proper equipment. Regrinds would likely be about 300 bucks total. You'd need lash caps (80.00) and thats about it. The one setback would be tuning- hopefully by then Diablo gets off of their keister.

I wouldn't be too quick to swap cams...Theres something to be said about having a cam with lots of vacuum. Unlike the Gen 1 4.7, the Gen 2 motor appears to have a much more aggressive profile (I don't know the specs but comparing the lobes you could see a DRASTIC difference). Depending on what your goals are, I dont see it as a mandatory upgrade. From what I have seen of the 08+ 4.7 in action, it tends to feel pretty soft below 3k...re-ground cams would likely make this low end worse.
