4.7 superchip 3875 flashpaq info

So i recently installed an SC 3875 on my '06 4.7L WK. I wasnt sure which tune to run since i didnt want to switch to paying for 91 octane at the pump but i still wanted an overall gain in performance.

Thanks to Crestwood for advising me on his past experiences with the product, he advised that the Performance 91 tune was AWESOME but requires 91 octane gas, he decided to run the 87 tune and was happy with it.

I have another good buddy who is running the Performance 91 tune but is still using 87 octane gas. He said he loves it... so thats what im running right now to test it out... so far its been about 4 days and the improvement shows! Once i run out of my 87 gas i will throw in a tank of 91 to see what kind of difference i notice. Scott @ superchips advised me that throwing 87 octane in the 91 tune so if i dont like the performance tune i'll probably just do what Crestwood did and run the 87 tune.

Also, i asked for Scotts advice over at superchips and this was his reply...

Each tune has been created with a specific octane in mind. Both the Performance and TOW tunes require 91 octane because we have increased engine timing tables in those files. While I have heard of people using 87 octane in those tunes the majority of the users that have tried this approach have experienced severe engine pinging requiring them to upgrade to a higher octane level if they plan to continue with those files.

That being said, if you are looking for the best bang for the buck then your friend was correct. The Performance file with 91 octane will provide you with the most HP and the best opportunity for mileage improvements but sacrifice is the additional cost of going from 87 to 91 octane. You may increase mileage enough to counter those cost increases at the pump but there is no guarantee.

If your goal is to stick with 87 octane fuel then the 87 tune is the safest option for that type of fuel. You will still feel a drastic improvement in vehicle drivability and there will be an opportunity for you to gain fuel mileage as well thanks to the custom tuning done by our engineers. It will just not be as drastic as what the 91 tune would offer.

Hope that helps!

Scott

Anyway, thought i would share this info for all you guys out there with superchips. Maybe some of you can chime in to see what you're running and how you like the product.

Thanks!

-Dave

I'd be curious to see what your AFRs/fuel trims are like, a custom tune via SCT would likely be a good idea.

No, I am not an authorized SCT tuner. Diablo is working on supporting the 3.7/4.7 engines...they already support the 4.7 in Dodge trucks.

Are you the gentleman that contacted me via email?

im running a CAI and ported throttle body along with my SC... the exhaust will be soon. I had a deal set up but it fell through, contemplating spending the extra money on a cat back vs. simply replacing the muffler.

Re: 4.7 superchip 3875 flashpaq info

i usually run 89 with the 87 tune.. i get great gas mileage on that tune. i recently dropped from the 91 tune with 93 octance, to the 87 tune with 89 octane- i miss the performance..

Between the price and the lack of demand I've had for later model 4.7s, no, not right now. Sorry.

I think it would sell quickly at 50.00 . My rule of thumb for 4.7 cores is I try to get the older JTEC cores at ~40.00, and the NGC cores for ~50.00 . Not surprisingly, most vendors' core returns are ~50.00 for exchanges.
