So ive challenged the "Fuel Low" light many times as well as the "0 Miles to Empty". Prolly about 60 miles from the time the Fuel Low light and 0 miles to empty light came on before getting gas.
Does anyone know how far you can go from the time it says Fuel Low or 0 Miles to Empty? Has anyone ever tried it to see how many miles/gallons you can go?
lol i hear ya about the hills have eyes shit... plus, who the hell wants to deal with a jeep that just ran out of gas, just turns into the worlds largest paper weight.
with that said... my gas light just went on... lets see how long i can go. I will post a pic once i refuel.
So my next question is, When Jeep says you should be able to get about 500 miles on one tank (use this as an example) does that mean 500 by the time the light comes on or till you put put out on the side of the road. Obviously this all depends on driving style and conditions. but they advertise something like this for the wk2 with the v6.
Here is the quote from the jeep website
Enjoy smooth, sustained power, with the all-new Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 engines dual overhead camshafts (DOHC) and Variable Valve Timing (VVT). Engineers completely retooled and delivered massive 38-percent improvement in horsepower and 11-percent bump in torque over the previous V6. The engine torque exceeds 90 percent of peak torque from 1,600 to 6,400 rpm for a smooth, responsive driving experience. All this, and it's still able to deliver a satisfying 10-percent improvement in highway fuel economy. That's good enough to deliver you up to 500 miles from home on one tank of gasoline.
No reason to take jabs at Benny because he doesn't agree with your logic. You realize he races 1000+ hp skylines on gravel professionally, right? He has proven his knowledge around here.
Not everyone thinks you're right.
3 gallons is a lot of fuel. I drive passed that every single time. I have had my WK since they first came out in 2005. Bought mine new. I have actually run out of gas on the highway. I've never replaced my fuel pump or had issues with it.
Cutting some donuts in the sand is hardly beating the shit out of these Jeeps. They have one of the best 4wd system available.
No no, that's not my point. I'm not the morality police. I couldn't really care less what your/anyones personal opinions may be. They're personal, and not everyone will agree.
But this is a public forum, and people take information on here seriously. If you don't have hard evidence that driving passed the "ding" is going to cause damage, then don't say it. Because someone out there might take your opinion for fact.
And the fact is... The "ding" happens early. That's it.
Been driving Jeeps for a very long time, the same way, same fueling cycles, full to the rim, empty to almost fumes and never had a problem with the fuel pumps in either WJ or WK.
Did replace a fuel filter inside tank ONCE in WJ after a 1200 mile, pure desert, sand trip years ago. Same fueling habits as always and never had an issue. The WK still going strong even with donuts on the beach, I relate to that one too.
If you take the tank out and check inside, you'd be surprised how clean the tank is, unless you do a trip like I mentioned and in extreme heat, it's like it causes a vacuum and sucks the sand particles into the tank somehow, regardless of how you refuel it.
Other guys that drive Nissans and Toyotas also suffer from these desert trips and never go out there without a spare fuel filter.

I can drive for 100+ kms after the ding. That's all there is too it.
That shit at the bottom of the tank is called gas, use it! haha
I don't need to google how a fuel pump works, It's pretty simple. And myself and clearly a lot of other people have been using the same method without killing the fuel pump.
If you are unsure of how long it take to run out, then fill up. There's nothing wrong with that either. But to say that it's "wrong" or "abusive" to drive passed the ding is crazy talk! lol
And like I said before, I've burnt up a fuel pump long ago driving long miles to school. It's hot in the south.
Edit: And not saying it was due to keeping it in low fuel but I was told that it was burnt up when it was replaced. This was back in 2006 around when I first bought the WK for college.
i feel like nobody cares about how awesome my pic was and how low on fuel i was driving around with ... wheres the love these days... is this what we've come to??? not appreciating the little things in life... and caring more about fuel pumps and gas tanks
