So ive challenged the "Fuel Low" light many times as well as the "0 Miles to Empty". Prolly about 60 miles from the time the Fuel Low light and 0 miles to empty light came on before getting gas.

Does anyone know how far you can go from the time it says Fuel Low or 0 Miles to Empty? Has anyone ever tried it to see how many miles/gallons you can go?

That stupid lil idiot light pisses me off pretty frequently. The gauge seems to drop off quickly when it hits .25/ tank. Last time I ran it 15-20 miles to a gas station. When I filled up it only took ~17.5 gals!!! I guess it's one of those mysteries of life brought to you by Chrysler engineers.

You have 3 gallons to get out of the woods and to a fuel station ;) Personally I think its a good idea for those that are way out there and forget to look down.

I have yet to see a jeep on the side of the road that needs fuel :p

When it say, "0 miles to empty", you have 3 gallons left in the tank.

I think the tank is a 20 gallon tank. That's why when it's on "E", you're only able to put 17 gallons in.

And for those that say it's a poor design don't realize that Chrysler does this on purpose.

I completely disagree. IMO, it's far too pessemistic, I'd rather it be much more accurate.

I'm not someone who needs false warnings of impending doom to know when I need to fuel up.

Chrysler designed it that way.

Well that explains it. I have yet to fill it since I parked it last night so we will see how much it takes to fill the tank. I went about 30 miles after 0 then put my last $3.85 I had on me (I'm poor and unemployed) an drove the last 28 miles home fine.

the "reserve" is there to keep the fuel pump cool. the pump is in the tank and if its dry it can burn out and i have heard that is it very pricey to replace. the 3 gallons is enough to keep it covered and safe from burn out.

you really should not drive it past the 17 gallons, that extra 60 miles could cost you hundreds in repair bills

that fuel system is the worst in the world the gauge goes past the F when its full and it always says 0 miles to empty when theres plenty in the tank. does the 05 have a yellow fuel light like the 08s have bc my friend has a 08 and when his thing says 0 miles to empty he can go a little but then his gas light goes on

Wow thanks for the heads up on the fuel pump cooling. I don't want to deal with replacing it.

I get "fuel low" on the evic with a dong. No light ever comes on.

Why run it that low ever? It costs just as much to keep it topped off as it does to fill it up from E. I never let mine get below 1/8. It's just not worth it. I'm going to buy the damn gas anyway. It's part of my weekly ritual. Once a week I go grab a cup at Starbucks and there's a Shell right on the corner. I get my caffiene, the Jeep gets it's premium, and I never have to worry about running out, running low if I get stuck in traffic, or having to waste time at the gas station if I need to get somewhere quickly.

Because i have been out of work for almost 2 months now with no income at all so when i need to get to an interview i pushed the limits of my gas tank. now that i know it could burn out the pump i wont do it again but thats why i did it in the first place.

I can understand that...

What I don't understand is why people who aren't in your predicament run it on E.

Anyhow...good luck to you on your job search. It's tough out there...

i love this thread... i dont know how many times ive pushed it passed the E mark on my WK to the point that i think any second i will run out of gas... ive probably been right around 1/4 tank below the lowest mark... i've never actually calculated that but everytime i do it i lose about 5 minutes of life because im so scared im gonna run out of gas. I heard a comedian once say how its nearly impossible to run out of gas these days because of the idiot light, the idiot reminder that the light is turning on and the extra gas they put after that point... i think about it every time i drive around with barely any gas, and i have yet to prove him wrong. IMHO i am perfectly happy with Chrysler giving us an extra 3 gallons to work with ... society likes to procrastinate and i sure as hell dont like filling up my gas tank so i push it as far as i can... even if im not really out of gas haha

edit: knock on wood that i dont run out of gas on my way home from work :(

^^^^ Hooray for DGora, someone else has testicles! ;) haha

I've done the same a bunch of times, I've even gotten so annoyed with it's pessemistic ways that I've run it empty, then spashed 10 litres in it that I'd been carried in the back to get me to the servo....

And guess what!?!?! SHOCK HORROR - my fuel pump is fine!!!!!!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
