Re: 4x4 with 4.7 exhaust manifold gasket

yes mine does though. but as soon as I drive off that ticking noise that sounds just the same as a exhaust gasket leaking noise comes back on low revs, but as soon as the revs goes higher the sound softens until I don't hear it anymore....then again giving some gas at low revs...the noise is back.

No, if you have ever heard an exhaust leak, there's no mistaking it for a lifter. An exhaust leak makes a fluttering sound. Like blowing across a plastic candy wrapper.

Re: 4x4 with 4.7 exhaust manifold gasket

so you would probably say its def. a lifter problem? Cause I'm trying to sort that noise out. I already did the engine cleaning and new oil change. I'm out of options

If you have a ticking noise, and it doesn't sound like a fluttering sound then it very well could be a lifter not pumping up. It would be best for you to take it to a reputable shop and get it diagnosed before you throw lots of parts at it. Just my $.02 I know how frustrating that is though.......

Re: 4x4 with 4.7 exhaust manifold gasket

I did a sound recording on the noise before I went home yesterday. Is there a way I can maybe post it here where you can listen to it?? Cause that is the sound I hear only when im driving and on cold start, when she idles I don't hear it anymore.

I wouldn't have a clue how to post a sound recording here, unless you can attach a file.

99% sure it'll be a broken bolt on the drivers side.

$400 fix locally for me. It's been on my to-do list forever.

Try uploading the clip via soundcloud (https://soundcloud.com/) or youtube.

Re: 4x4 with 4.7 exhaust manifold gasket

Do the Hemi's have this same problem? I ended up getting an 05 4X4 with a Hemi, after a kid in a Honda pulled out in front of me and totaled my other Jeep about a month ago. My new WK seems to also have a tick, and I can't tell if it is an exhaust manifold leak or a noisy lifter.

Re: 4x4 with 4.7 exhaust manifold gasket

Hemi's have both. BUT, commonly, the Hemi seems to have the lifter "hemi tick," while the 4.7L has the manifold leak. That's just about what I gather from this forum. Hopefully somebody else can chime in.

Typically a manifold gasket leak goes away as the engine heats up as far as I know.

I think the hemi does, and I think the v6 has a collector flange gasket. I've looked all over the web, and I've been to lots of parts stores, and some say it has a donut, but they just happen to be out of it, and other places say it doesn't use a donut. If it's leaking at the head, it's gonna be a bitch to change. Please help.

Doug
No there is no donut gasket at the manifold collector, the 3.7/4.7 have the same setup. theres a sleeve that bolts the pipe to the manifolds. it may not be the gasket at the head, I have heard of the manifolds cracking, so I would check for cracks first and then look at the sleeve connector on the collector.

said sleeve connector, may be different based on earlier years
