hello I have a 05 limited with a 5.7 with 105k with a noise that almost sounds like a spunt bearing ..my question is would it be better to replace the motor or send it out to be rebuilt and if so who would you recommend to perform the work thanks in advance for your response

How do you know it's a spun bearing? What's the oil pressure like?

On what to do, it depends on what you're comfortable with, and how soon you need to have it running again. If it were me (I have another vehicle to drive), I'd rip the engine out and rebuild it myself, adding lots of performance goodies and forged components. It would cost more, but then I'd know exactly what I had, and it'll be done the way I want it.

The easiest (and probably less expensive) way though is to buy a junk yard engine, or get a rebuilt somewhere.

Can you get us a video of what it sounds like? We may be able to help out more and get a better idea of what is going on inside the engine

If it is a spun rod bearing, it might just need new bearings, but there is no way to tell what damage might be done to the crank without first removing the bearings. I've not heard of spun bearings on a Hemi being an issue though, so might be something entirely different. I really wouldnt waste money putting a high performance motor into a WK with so many miles on the OD, plus the 05 is the least desirable of the WK's. If the motor is toast, get a JY Hemi.

Rainman how miles have you driven since you 1st heard this sound?
If you are still driving daily since your OP,then its not a spun bearing, they go quick and leave you walking!

ok yes it still runs I tried to take a video of it but it doesn't seem to be as loud as it was its almost like a rattle/ping/metal to metal grind I heard it going up a hill @ 2k rpm but when I got to the garage the exhaust is louder than the noise

Well the good news is its not a spun bearing. ok is it a grinding noise under load only ? starting to sound like a broken flex plate.more info will help does what and when.

great yes under load....before I changed the oil you could hear it at idle I used mobile one 5w-30 synthetic and now I hear it @2k rpm or up hill today I ran it hard so I could take a video but no good I hear a slight noise appearing to come from the driver side of the motor
