I have a 2005 Jeep grand Cherokee with a 4.7 engine...I have a 2008 dodge magnum 5.7 that I wanna use in the Jeep....will this work? All parts are available for me to use...has anyone used a car motor as a swap? What problems would I have? I wanna use motor and tranny if possible....

Re: 5.7 car motor into 05 cherokee help...

ypu will need to deal with the electronics.

either getting jeep 4.7 harness to work with your car stuff.

or making your car stuff work in the jeep.

or find a 5.7 jeep to get the electronics from...am talking PCM and all associated modules and parts.

basically a huge can of worms. can bus will do that to you.

Re: 5.7 car motor into 05 cherokee help...

Although I can't speak directly to the swap you are describing, I think most people determine that full powertrain swaps like that are more hassle than they are worth. The electronics on these things are pretty complicated, and there are many chances for things to go wrong!

Plus, I do not believe the Dodge Magnum used the 545rfe (perhaps the W5A580?) tranny found in the V8 Jeeps, so you may have some problems there as well. The 4.7L jeep does have the right transmission, but I do not know what would be required to make it work with the Hemi motor out of the Magnum.

Why not just sell the Jeep and Magnum, and use that cash to buy a Hemi Jeep?

Yes....the jeeps use the 545rfe trans.
You might want to check the configuration of the front accessories and side for the radiator inlets/outlets as well. I think the Jeep hemis are like the Ram Hemis which are differant than on the cars.

Re: 5.7 car motor into 05 cherokee help...

You are going to run into a lot of issues, but it can be done, but doing this just for a 5.7 isn't worth it.

Sell both and buy yourself what you want and mod from there.

The electronics and body modules are going to give you a severe case of Teretts!

Re: 5.7 car motor into 05 cherokee help...

Swap has been done many times on Ram trucks...4.7 PCM can be used, but it is best to use a 5.7 harness. No telling what issues you'll run into with the Jeep electronics, but I think it is doable.

Its possible but so is a 6.1 in a liberty. You will need the computers, mounts, etc from a hemi jeep. So three vehicles to make one? You might be better off looking for a 2008 or newer 4.7. Now that is more likely to "click right in."

168,000 on a 4.7 now thats good news for some of us!!

jeep runs very good no problems just burning a little oil but i wanna swap before it gets worst....ive towed cars with it and its always had 24 inch rims took long cross country trips and im very pleased with it....7 years strong no major issues but time to make this 5.7 work it only has 30000 miles on it....

Re: 5.7 car motor into 05 cherokee help...

So you want to take a setup that works and torment yourself with what will likely be an endless series of hassles? Radiator, AC, front suspension, mounts, drivetrain, and a lot of electronics changes, are but the start of the effort.

Just rebuild the 4.7 or buy a Jeep that already has the 5.7L. Seriously. You already know how the 4.7 serves your needs. Why change that to living with a Frankenstein that nobody will be able to diagnose or service?

I'm all for challenges but the added parts costs and labor issues here don't make a lot of sense.
