I am selling a 6.1L cam, but I wouldn't recommend it. BECAUSE you can get a hell of a lot moreout and a FRi Sidewinder Cam or an Intertia Spartan Max Cam.

If you want to install any cam you will need to change the Lifters to Non-MDS Lifters, upgrade the Valves Springs, and Push-Rods. I highly recommend you to get an Inertia or a FRi Sidewinder Cam

considering you need to buy ALL the other stuff.......and then price of the cam isnt that much, like 450 or so, and you are going thru ALL the trouble......get the cam with the best performance.

you will also need a diablo to ENJOY the cam/

The 6.1 cam, although cheap , certainly works well if given the proper setup. It is not the best cam for everyone but it works well for many.

Although the Cars/Jeeps with cams seem to be easier to tame than the Ram trucks, theres something to be said about using a cam, like the 6.1 cam or something like a FRI Sidewinder, that requires minimal tuning to make it work well. There have been alot of Hemi vehicles- across the board- with big cams that just dont run right because of surging, stalling, etc. Are these cams TOO big? No. But they need alot of tuningwork to get right.

What cam is right for you depends on alot of variables...Id look for a Comp Cams grind , or FRI/MWP before Inertia. Just my .02 .

Not true on the NON MDS lifters. There are a few cams that are mds friendly thus you keep the mds lifters.

Sorry, I meant that's if you wanted to keep them* Your right on the MDS. But who would want to keep it when you are upgrading your Cam?

Fmm, what other mods. do you have? If you're just starting to mod., the cam should be one of the last things you do. First do the intake and, expecially the exhaust, or you won't get near the full benefit of a cam. Like said, if you put the 6.1 cam in you'll need to change the things indicated above. I am just now finishing up changing over to a FRI Sidewinder cam in my 5.7. I hope to have it finished this weekend. I've just been "puttering" at the change.....a hour here, two hours there. The whole thing, with new springs, pushrods, Crower Timing Set, 6.1 chain tensioner, new plugs and water pump, and a few other minor things is costing about $1000-1100. Good luck, whatever you decide.

Well, I finished about 2 hours ago, fired it up and let it idle for about 15 minutes to pump up the lifters. Even after the first drive there is still a little lifter noise, which is to be expected. If it's still there in a week, then I might be a little concerned. In any case it's not that bad. Since all the adaptives have been reset, for now it didn't seem to be all that impressive at first. I drove it for only about 3 miles so far, and even in that short distance it started running better and better, and the MDS started coming on again after about 1.5 miles. Just before I got back home I jumped on it from about 30 mph, it caught 1st and I ran it up through the 1-2 shift. It really leaps on the shift, but I still have to raise the shift points to about 6400 RPM. Right now it's shifting at 6000 RPM. I set up a screen on my DashHawk to monitor, Engine Load, Knock Retard, Commanded Fuel Mixture and Oil Pressure. Right now those are the critical things I want to watch. I didn't see any KR and the WOT fuel mixture was running a little fat at 11.9/1. For now this is good, but I'll start tinkering with it after I get some miles on it. We're going to take it on a ~1800 mile trip next week, so I'll be able to really check it out, and make tuning adjustments on the road, as needed. Now that I've done this one, when I get back from the trip I am going to do the same mod. to my Hemi LX. It should be much easier, as it doesn't have the stacked cooling up front and it's not 4WD. Plus, having just done it should make it go a little quicker/easier too.

I did the whole job with the heads, intake and exhaust on. I had to purchase a "head on" valve spring compressor from the Crane Cam folks. That was a week delay, and another week was lost waiting for the 6.1 chain tensioner, as it had to come from Mich. In all, doing a little work here and there I am guessing the whole job took about 30 hours. By far, the biggest pain in the a$$ is removing and then reinstalling the radiator, moving the hydraulic fan (who's idea was that?), and the A/C condenser and trans. cooler. They're all stacked in there with rigid lines going to all of them. Fortunately I only had to disconnect the trans. cooler lines. I was also lucky to have one of my kids help with this part of the job. Everything else is cake, as long as you're patient. Other minor pains were the valve covers (requires a medium deep socket for some), reinstalling the exhaust valve train (lining up the pushrods with the rockers....a magnet worked great) and the oil pump (if parts are worn too bad you'll have to remove the oil pan to get it out. I decided not to remove it, as the timing set wear was less than minimal. I did use the Crower adjustable cam gear with the 6.1 tensioner (4 tension springs vs. 2 tension springs on a 5.7), original chain and crank gear. I advanced the cam 2*, as the Sidewinder is already suppose to have 4* advance ground into it. I am after a real strong low/mid range, and this should do it.....I hope.
