I've got both tuners and, as far as trans. tuning by the user goes, the SC is far superior, and gives you complete control over upshift/downshift and torque management. I am currently running the SC 91 tune, with my own trans. up/down shift and torque management schedule. As far as hit and miss goes, for me it's mostly a hit, but I do have (a long time ago) a little automatic transmission experience. I found that the best way to make adjustments is to drive it stock and make notes on what you perceive to be your "problem" areas. It's best to then graph them, especially if you're doing up and down at the same time. You may also want to graph the stock schedules to give you an idea what to look for when you modify. I haven't done that yet, as it takes about 15-20 minutes of continuous button pushing to load everything and the install. My first try was pretty close and just required a little minor tweaking. I am going to drive it this way for awhile and then make further adjustments, if needed. If anything it is now too sensitive, but it sure is a blast going around corners now....a slight touch and it downshifts to first and you're off like a shot. I still may also lower the torque management a little more, especially on the light throttle 2-3 shift. Also, if you desire, SC does have their "modest" schedules that are somewhat better than stock.
The DS tuner only gives the user control over the the first 3 gears. I haven't messed with it too much, as I am pretty happy with the SC at this point. If you have a modified WK, the DS is better overall, because it offers CMR tuning as well as user adjustable WOT fuel mixture, timing and shift points. It also allows you to adjust idle speed which the SC does not. I have a little grief with that since I installed a new cam in mine and need the idle speed up ~75-100 RPM.
