B&G Tune?

Anybody run a B&G tune? I remember reading about them over at the other WK forum years ago but never pulled the trigger. I think you had to either buy a new board or send in your current one and wait and I can't be without a car for that long.

I ended up getting the Flashpaq, which has been OK. Mostly, I'm happy that I was able to change the tire size. And maybe it tightened up the shifts a bit, but you can only put so much lipstick on a pig, after all...

I'm looking into some better tuning options for better MPG and better shifting.

I'm also trying to hunt down an option to recalibrate my ESP for larger tires so the damn thing doesn't kick in when it shouldn't. I have a 2" spacer lift kit with 255/70/17 tires. I have seen the 3"+ lift ESP module but I don't wanna use something I shouldn't.

I have a 4.7L 2006 Limited.

Re: B&G Tune?

If your front and rear tire diatmeters are the same (or real close) you shouldn't be having ESP problems. If you get the Advanced Transmission Tuning (ATT) Application for your SC tuner, you can set the shift schedule/torque management any way your heart desires. I have mine working as good as any 545RFE can work, using the ATT App. and a Sonnax Line Pressure Booster. You wouldn't know it's the same transmission.

True, you don't have too many tune options, but the ones that come with the SC are actually pretty good. I also have a Diablosport Tuner for mine, but seldom use it, especially since I got the ATT App. zeroed in. About the only thing the DS tuner does that the SC doesn't is allow you to change WOT fuel mixture and timing. No adjustments for light thottle operation on either tuner. With the DS tuner you can also purchase Chip Master Revolution (CMR) tunes from various places. These are custom tailored to your specific mods. and preferences. I understand that they run $200-300 though. With my mods. (see signature), and the stock SC tune with the ATT App. I am about as happy as I can be. Good luck on whatever you end up doing.

Also, again with my mods., I routinely get 22-23 mpg (with a high of 24.4 mpg) on the highway. Most the time in town, not too much difference over stock....usually 13-15 mpg., and that's with nearly 100 more horsepower than stock. Biggest differences were the headers and the cam....advanced 2* from straight up.

EDIT: Oops, I just saw you have a 4.7, so disregard the DS stuff. Get the ATT App. for yours, set it up the way you want it, and call it good. Guaranteed you'll like it, if you set it up properly.

Re: B&G Tune?

I have the transmission tune unlocked but could never find any settings that were user friendly. Honestly I have no idea where to start. My 3rd gear feels totally DEAD at WOT or faster highway merging and it's been bothering me. Plugs are still good, filter is clean, fluids are good.

As for ESP issues. I've seen tons of lifted jeeps around here mention the ESP kicks in a little too easily. Sharp U-turns, kicking a curb around town does it every time. It's always a front tire, never in the rear. Only started happening after the lift way put on. It raises the front end quite a bit. If there's a solution, I'd love to hear it. But I've searched extensively and haven't found anything.

I suppose the search continues.

Re: B&G Tune?

How do you drive......little/lots of city driving (~25-35 mph), little/lots of rural intermediate speed driving (~40-50 mph), or little/lots of highway driving (above ~50 mph). Also, what are all the things you don't like with regard to the transmission upshifts (timing/speed) and firmness? Your "dead at WOT while merging".......what speed(s) are we talking about? Does it downshift to 2nd when it should at WOT? What do you have the engine rev. limit set at?

Re: B&G Tune?

Mostly city stop/go driving. My commute is all of 8 minutes, including a 3 minute on/off highway portion. When I merge and let 2nd gear go up to higher RPM before it shifts, when it hits 3rd and I ask it to continue the momentum, it seems like it just loses horsepower. I don't expect it to continue like it was in the lower gears but it shouldn't bog down like that. So if I tap the throttle to get it back to 2nd it goes nuts and makes a worthless shift into 2nd with a ton of noise but no power and then shifts back to 3rd. I think a lot of auto transmissions experience that "worthless sihift," feeling when they punch it and get a higher gear with alot of show but no go.

I hooked up my flashpaq last night and was going to dig into the transmission settings but it's way over my head. I understand raising the shift points and firming up the torque management, but the way Superchips designed the interface is beyond me.

Re: B&G Tune?

Have you checked your transmission fluid level and condition....with the fluid hot? It'll take about 30 miles of driving for it to get to full operating temperature. Have you serviced the transmission.....new fluid and both filters? If not, you should, at a minimum, make sure the fluid level and condition is good.
