Re: Back to stock air intake

I just installed a stock SRT8 intake tube and I couldn't be happier to be honest. I don't have a tune yet on my Hemi but will soon as well as a ported TB. I mean the SRT8 intake tube is essentially the same (or seems) as the stock 5.7L (compare the shape of both next to each other) just without the bulkiness of the air box. As far as MPGs go they haven't gotten better or worse but I have noticed a slight but better throttle response in the low end and the top end. I haven't actually datalogged anything but from pure feeling its noticeable. And if I'm imagining it well at least it cleans up the engine bay quite a bit!

Re: Back to stock air intake

Looks good you need to get some Taylor short spark plug wires to clean it up, I got a set on my engine looks great I will take a picture once Iget my srt tube, I was going to get a ported tb but the new power I think I am going to wait. I read that if you are not going to add exhaust, heads and port the intake the bored tb will not help too much with a stock engines this is just what I have read.

Yeah I agree that the Taylor Shorties would clean the engine up way more but I got the SRT tube shipped for just $35! But the Shorties will probably be next. I do have a custom 3 inch exhaust from a shop around here in Boston which sounds pretty damn sweet. And I plan on adding (when money allows) the SRT headers down the road. We'll see I guess

Re: Back to stock air intake

Im currently running the k&n 63 CAI and as everyone knows I did lose low end, specifically in 2nd not so much off the line. I know have the Diablo Intune 91 tune with Performance Transmission tune and I definitely feel like whatever I lost most is back. Alot has to do with adjusting throttle and what not but Im chirping 2nd low with lift and 265/70s and full armor underneath. I am curious about the SRT8 mod, that may be something I look into. Cam, 6.1 valve train and headers are next on agenda..

Cool Re: Back to stock air intake

Well, I got my used oem SRT8 intake and installed it to the Hemi Wow it feels great zero Throttle lag just like the stock intake that came from with my engine it just looks alot cooler looking. The numbers with dashawk are about the same maybe a little higher but not much. The engine noise is a little quite for my taste . I know the cooler temps low 70s in GA helps but no throttle lag. I am thinking that the AFE intake may just be putting to much air into the TB at lower speed causing this throttle lag. At full throttle the TB is open bigger and it can suck it in faster that is my thinking. At highway speed the AFE does feel great I have not tested the OEM SRT8 intake on highway. Here are some pics

Re: Back to stock air intake

Chris, now your bay looks just like mine including the CAI and he shorties (except mine are blue. However I retained the stock motor cover and dremeled one edge to make room for the IAT sensor on the new tube. I also opted for the more hidden look with my satin BT catch can with a L-bracket custom mount I made more in the rear.

Last, is that strut brace aftermarket? Looks a bit different than mine, and also is a different color...(Addco? SRT8?)

Thanks Brent,

The strut brace is from a SRT8 ,I could not find a good place for the catch can so I got the brace for the cc and to make the engine look cooler looking . I have a set of chrome engine covers for the spark plug wires but they got to hot and caused burning to the spark wires so I took them off it was sweet looking with them.

I couldn't find a better picture on my phone, but this is roughly what my bay looks like now (though it's not as dirty now lol).

THe MM85 mm ported TB certainly does make a big difference with a stock 5.7. and whoever said it doesnt could not possibly have one. Gains are noticable across the RPM range in both torque and HP. It takes about 15 minutes to install and you will be very pleased with the results.

Re: Back to stock air intake

Here's how I did my LX SRT-8 CAI and the Billet Tech. Catch Can. The CAI has an additional air inlet just below the filter, in addition to the stock (enlarged) inlet. I also use the Challenger IAT Sensor, which samples IAT from the center of the tube, as opposed to the outer portion of the tube. IAT on the highway is always at ambient.

Re: Back to stock air intake

Is the IAT sensor from a Challenger a 6.4 or 5.7? Also is your MDS disabled, as I would think the stock intake is better with MDS operation versus the SRT, which has no MDS.
