Cam and ported heads question on a 5.7?

My buddy will be installing a cam from Inertia Motorsports in a few weeks on my 5.7; However, he also wants to know if he can port the heads while he's down there. Has anyone ported the heads on a 5.7, if so, how did it go? Is there anything I should worry about?

I wouldnt let some one start grinding everything bigger. There maybe some cleanup work to do but you have remember, bigger is not always better.

Re: Cam and ported heads question on a 5.7?

Im about 100 percent sure I will be doing the performance heads. Just making sure all my bills are in line first, before I pull the trigger on them. Not sure as the type of heads he was referring too, but Stu did tell me that in conjunction with the spartan plus cam I should gain about 75+ to the rear.

I can't wait.......

I will keep you updated.

Speaking of the Spartan Plus Cam, some of the hardware just arrived!!

Re: Cam and ported heads question on a 5.7?

Are you two wheel drive? It's better if you get the Heads anyway. It will be a different beast. Also you should look at a Stage II Valve Body from Sharadon.

Re: Cam and ported heads question on a 5.7?

Your definitely right. It just makes no sense for me to install the cam right now, especially when I really want to do the heads too. Oh, and I'm two wheel drive. If you don't mind, can you send me a link for the stage 2 valve body by sharadon.

Re: Cam and ported heads question on a 5.7?

Scroll down and you will see it. They also have Stage 2 and 3 Transmissions. I plan on getting the Stage II Valve Body soon.

Here's the Link:

So you have the Forged Rods, Non-MDS lifters, Cam Kit and the Cam right?

Re: Cam and ported heads question on a 5.7?

Everything except the camshaft. Although the camshaft is made in California, and I live in California, I asked him to send the cam back to his self then send it to me to save me some money on taxes. It'll be another week and half before I see it.
