Re: chip or CAI for performance

i think thats the major difference between the regular 4.7 and the 4.7 HO, right?

I could be wrong but i think Scott did that swap...

Re: chip or CAI for performance

its a programmer... its a hand held device that you plug into your Jeeps computer and re program it to one of the options on the programmer. Once its done you disconnect it and thats it, you're good to go.

Not sure about the re learning thing... ive heard that too, but im not sure if thats the case 100% with this device.

SuperChips literally copies the stock tune file. It then overwrites it with a modified tune file created by SC. After you unplug the handheld, it will not reset back to stock... I mean, how can it? The original file has been overwritten. Even if you unplug the battery, it won't reset, there's nothing there to reprogram it!

Go to SC website. They aren't just a small brand who is making some cash in the Jeep market. They support a very large number of automotive platforms.

My reasoning for purchasing my SC programmer wasn't to get more acceleration. I bought mine simply because after installing the lift and larger tires, I wanted a boost to regain if not exceed the MPG's I was getting prior to the additions.

If you want a quick Jeep on the streets, you should have got a Hemi or SRT Hemi. Both of which have significant room for improvement over stock. The 4.7 is adequate at best for on and off road performance power-train.

Again, stay away from Jet Chips.

Also, remember the difference between a "chip" and a programmer. They are not synonymous. Using them that way could cause other interested readers to be mislead.

Re: chip or CAI for performance

How much of a mpg improvement could you expect with the sc on a 4.7l 2wd?

I can't speak for a 2WD 4.7, however with mine before the lift and tires I was seeing the exact same MPG's as I'm seeing after, but getting close to 19 MPG's on the highway opposed to the 17.5 before. Not sure what the gains would look like if it was stock. Probably even better!

in my experience, a tuner does a lot more good than a cold air intake on just about every vehicle i have owned

Re: chip or CAI for performance

X2, jwh433. I've done all the "easier, not too invasive" mods. (see signature) and have and use both tuners. They are, by far, a much better bang for the buck. Most aftermarket CAI's just increase the noise level, which many people equate to more power......not true. To get ANY noticeable benefit out of a CAI you would need to improve the volumetric efficiency (VE) of the motor. The only way to do that is with extensive engine work and a good exhaust system, including headers. Big bucks.

Re: chip or CAI for performance

HiddenTalent - we have similar rides... im still contemplating getting the SC... im still not 100% convinced that $250 is worth dropping on that programmer... but at the same time if i see someone selling one on this forum, i'd probably buy it haha

any other noticable differences other than the hwy mpg's?

Re: chip or CAI for performance

You guys should raise some hell with Diablosport...They support tuning for the 4.7 Rams, but not you guys...
