Re: Cleaned TB on 5.7 Hemi w/ pics

that was dirty, but I think if the tb was that dirty then so it the manifold. its not all that hard to pull off and when I did mine, I soaked it in the tub with a heavy duty degreaser. I have a new pcv and catch can waiting at home for it, granted I have the 3.7 and the pcv is routed differently.

here is a pic of the oil in the intake runners...

Here you can see oil residue in the intake runners on the heads of my 3.7, when I pulled the manifold there was a puddle of it at the back of the intake.

It may be worth it to pull it and clean it out. just my .02

No, not if you're careful. It's a fairly soft o-ring and is reuseable. When torquing the bolts, just be sure to do it like tightening lug nuts on a car.....bolts opposite (criss cross) of each other. I also pull them down slowly, a little at a time until they're snug, then torque.

Yup and I have similar gaskets too. You can see it in my other post, 2 up from This one.

Nice, that is dirty. I did mine at 68k. I've also read that NO solvants should be used on the HEMIs, I know people will chime in here, I'd like to hear if anyone has had problems with that?

Re: Cleaned TB on 5.7 Hemi w/ pics

Hi All,

Recently purchased a used 2011 WK2 Overland with the 5.7L Hemi and just getting into the group.

Even though my Overland has a complete service history and was maintained properly by the original owner as part of the Lease I still want to go through the WK2.

My last vehicle was a Saturn Outlook which I always cleaned the TB due to the oil getting in there. Had no idea about a catch can until I started readying through this forum. I will be adding a catch can to my Hemi to make sure no more oil gets into the intake.

My question is:
I thought I read somewhere that the throttle body should not be cleaned. or is this just the intake manifold?

I plan on cleaning the throttle body as shown above, install a catch can, change plugs (I'm at 77K miles) change oil, etc.. to make sure I know I'm off to a good start.

Thanks.

Re: Cleaned TB on 5.7 Hemi w/ pics

I believe the stealers say it is a non-serviceable item, yet many will "service" it for you.

Phottomatt, I used rubbing alcohol to clean mine the first time. Haven't ever had to do it again with the catch can. I just wipe it down, maybe every other oil change or so. I added a second in-line PCV Valve to the Jeep, but it doesn't appear to have made much difference in the quantity of crap that the can catches. Just another experiment I tried.
