Re: cold air

I like the 77, but here in TX the metal heats up so it would be redundant for me. These come with a heat shield and receive direct flow of air through the grill. The 77 is better in that it deletes the resonator box.

Re: cold air

It will have little effect on performance, but it does sound nice. Dont underestimate placebo effect, it's "cured" diseases in the past. Haha, but seriously I have intake, exhaust, and the superchips programmer, and still I wish all of them combined had a bigger effect on performance. I'm not saying it's not better, but still not a night and day difference like some make an intake alone seem like. But my jeep does sound real good.

Programmer gives you the most gains.

Re: cold air

I'm not saying you'll become a drag car, but with my mods I can put a stock 3.7L to shame....
And the sound is quite delicious too

That's the video I wanna make....

Re: cold air

1st off, an intake is a complimentary performance mod. YOU WILL NOT GET crazy hp gains from one. maybe a hp or two. thats it. ive dyno'd previous cars before and after. you'd b dissapointed.

2nd a cai isnt really about "cold air". lets face it, on most cars the cai goes into the fender well and pulls air from under the car. any one wanna guess how hot tar gets baking in the sun on a summer day. pretty hot. or in our jeeps case, taking air from in side the engine compartment.... its like a oven in there.

a intake is about smoothing air flow and getting ride or restrictions in the intake. air bongs, corragated piping, sharp angles kill air flow. this is where any hp gains come from. and in our jeeps case, if your intake isnt goin all the way to the tb, its a waste. that blacks box connected to the tb, very restrictive.

a intake is just a part of the puzzle. gotta get more air in to burn more fuel. more fuel equals more hp. but remember, you still gotta get that air out fast too. (and tune the computer to take advantage or more airflow)

Re: cold air

I went to both eBay and volants site and there is no intake for the 3.7L....

Post a link if you found something

I guess I should have looked before I sent you over there sorry. Volant makes a really nice product.

If you do a thread search on volant i have a rather long explanation of what you can expect from cai. In that post i also have some equations that will allow you to find out the cfm requirements for your particular application.

Re: cold air

Pick your poison...Plastic works better than metal, Insulated works better than both. I have datalogged it myself. Get rid of the resonator, the less bends the better.
