Re: EGR Valve... where to purchase?

lll2forlll3 and all, I was just checking out another forum regarding the PCV issue/problem and the need/effectiveness of a catch can. This is a great post by Mike at Diablosport in response to whether they're needed on Chrysler Hemi's and what happens if some sort of catch device is not used. He is talking about Knock Retard when he uses "KR". This also applies to other engines, especially ones with a poor crankcase ventilation system.

"No, this is where I comment on lost power due to oil contamination in the intake tract/combustion chamber. I will assure you that after having seen as many logs of as many HEMIs as we have here at DiabloSport, not to mention the numerous HEMI vehicles we have had on our dyno for R&D, I can say, without a doubt, that the HEMI's PCV/Oil Vapor control is the worst of anything we deal with. All you have to do is pull your intake manifold to see the puddles of oil collected in there, and realize that it eventually gets in the combustion chamber, and oil don't like to burn, thus, detonation occurs.

There is no gimmick here. HEMI's have KR issues. The KR issues are 99% of the time contributed to by oil contamination in the intake charge, reducing the effective octane in the combustion chamber, and leading to a loss of performance.

Plenty of people have seen solid power gains on even stock vehicles when getting rid of an oil issue by adding a catch can that works properly.

Thanks"

Re: EGR Valve... where to purchase?

So you want PCV or EGR?

I didn't find a part number for the EGR but I did find it on chryslerpartsdirect.com for $39.

PCV is part number 53032531AE and is $27 on chryslerpartsdirect.com

Re: EGR Valve... where to purchase?

Since ben has a 5.7 wouldn't the part be the same as it is here in the us?
Or are these parts that much different? Even if the part number is different do we know that the EGR is a totally different part?

Re: EGR Valve... where to purchase?

I went to Autozone for mine, it was $39.99 - Part number EGR4350 (for an 05 5.7) and came with a gasket, it was easy to replace - here's a how-to with cutting one of the bolts and replacing with a shorter one - I just unbolted the alternator and it took me about 30 minutes without needing to cut anything.

Nice this makes me feel netter about doing it. Why'd you cut the bolt? Did you have to?

I didn't cut the bolt, I loosened the alternator - the person who put the how-to together did, so he didn't have to unbolt the alternator.

Re: EGR Valve... where to purchase?

On the stock setup the bottom EGR mount bolt hits the alternator just short of coming free from the cylinder head. Some have cut the bolt to get it out. I was able to get it out without cutting or loosening/removing the alternator. When you install the new bottom bolt, cut about 3/16 in. off it and chamfer the end real well so you don't cross thread it putting it back in. I also sanded down the lip on the head of the bolt for a little added clearance. Next time the job will be extremely easy.

Re: EGR Valve... where to purchase?

Ok I have some information: The EGR valve is p/n 53032509AM and my dealer quoted me @ $83.42 for the part and $137 for the install. It is NOT covered by any state emissions warranty.

My service tech suggested that I clean the throttle body but I was under the assumption that the TB doesn't require any maintenance?
