ENGINE SWAP, Please help!!!

okay im new at this forum thing, but iu was wondering, if i have a 2006 JEEP Grand Cherokee Limited 4X4 that has a 4.7L V8 engine in it. Now this engine just recently blew up, im not really sure how but i took it to a friend of mine and thats what he told me, and it makes sense....but that's not why im here. Im here because i wanna know if i could put the bigger 5.7L Hemi engine in it. I was just recently told about the Jasper Engine people and the 5.7L was only $500 more then the 4.7L (priced at $3500), im not the kind of guy to put a lot of money into a vehicle, so i was wondering if the tranny would have to be switched also, or anything along those lines, i understand the throttle body and all that stuff would have to come off, but would the tranny fit the engine? and would it fit (size wise) in the actual cavity?

no the tranny does not have to be switched if you have the 4x4...just make sure when you do the swap that you get the 4x4 5.7 and not the 4x2 5.7. You will also need a new ECU and Wiring Harness. Besides that everything should be a simple drop in swap.

I looked into this and was told that the drive doesn't matter. That has to do with the transfer case and you'll need a 5.7 from the same model year of your jeep.

That's what I was told by several different shops.

Re: ENGINE SWAP, Please help!!!

negative...the tranny does not to be switched. The only time you would need to do a switch is if you have a 4x2 or 4x4 tranny/engine. For instance if I have a 5.7 4x2 engine I will need to get the 4x2 tranny...same for 4x4 engine w a 4x4 tranny...you can swap any 2005-2007 components. Just as well if you have a 2008-2011. Different ECU's and wiring harnesses.
