Re: Exhaust cut out help

How do you go about installing them. Is it hard? how can i wire them up and would they go before the cat or after?

Re: Exhaust cut out help

They have to be after the cats. You'll probably need to have it installed by a muffler shop, but any wiring (if you get the electrically controlled ones) can be done by you. Also, your 5.7 only has a single exhaust, so you don't need two of them. Make sure you get the correct tubing size too.

Re: Exhaust cut out help

I have had QTP and Badlandz...both have fallen apart on me.

I once ordered a McCord powerplate, but they took too long and I canceled my order.

What do you guys think about these electric cutouts, it says no welding necessary! Let me know what you think because I really want these.

Re: Exhaust cut out help

When I had mine done, I could have gotten an electric one, but it was way more $$$ and I only use mine when I go racing. It was welded in place though, behind the cat. When open, it does affect the 2/2 O2 Sensor readings....nothing that causes an issue though.

Re: Exhaust cut out help

I recall reading a thread about cutouts that operated manually with a cable. the comment was that the manual version avoided the issues related to wiring and rattling as well as failure of the electric motor due to heat.

Re: Exhaust cut out help

I never did get a code, but I was monitoring it with my DashHawk, and it was giving "out of range" voltage readings. That, by itself, wouldn't be a problem. I really love the sound of it.....but the wife doesn't. I uncap it at home, drive to the races, and then recap when I get back home. Sooooo cool sounding!! In my past (many years ago) experience, the cable controlled ones didn't seal real well, but the electric ones were pretty good. They're kind of like a mini waste gate. Years ago I worked on a street legal, high performance '41 Willys with electrically controlled collectors. It was totally quiet driving down the street and, with the flip of a switch, it was race ready in about 3 seconds. Bet that was a fun one to drive.

Edit: Also, some folks used to put washers between the cutout and the cap. This way it looked closed, but basically had an exhaust leak making it sound pretty cool, depending on how many washers you used. As I recall, 3-4 under each bolt made it sound about right.
