Re: Exhaust Leak,Flutter,Ticking?

The thing is though, Im 99% sure if youre motor is misfiring, it would tell you. You also reported it runs fine under load without any sputtering except the noise.

Re: Exhaust Leak,Flutter,Ticking?

im still at a loss.....idk other than the exhaust manifold possibly being damaged which they stated they checked by covering the tail pipe but no visual inspection, all i know is that i tried everything i can think of. Guess its in thier hands, well see on friday.

Re: Exhaust Leak,Flutter,Ticking?

Make sure they were gapped properly. What kind of plugs did you use? Sounds like some kind of misfire to me. Does it idle rough?

Re: Exhaust Leak,Flutter,Ticking?

^ Good point. Which brings me to asking, if you used copper spark plugs? Ive read around that the HEMI doesnt like anything else.

Re: Exhaust Leak,Flutter,Ticking?

Well I'll tell you I used champion iridium or Somthing like that it was a long time ago for me in my Mind and I'll also say I've had this noise since day one of ownership even before I changed the plugs. No she idles very well and is as smooth as glass until I start accelerating a little, If i feather the throttle you'll never hear it, if I start to give it more you heard what happens.

Re: Exhaust Leak,Flutter,Ticking?

Hemis had a very common problem with the exhaust manifold studs breaking and/or backing out(any dealer will know the problem right off the bat). Just had mine fixed and the noise was exactly the same. I'd bet money if you started putting a socket on the bolts/nuts you have a few that spin. You only hear the tick under load b/c thats when back pressure builds in the exhaust forcing apart the manifold from the heads where the studs have broken or come loose. Under neutral revs you have no load which is why a smoke test won't reveal the leak/issue. Prob run you about 600-800 bucks at the dealer depending on how many are broken vs. loose. the actual studs are dirt cheap, so my advice it to go ahead and have them all replaced, they'll prob recommed it anyways since 99% of the cost is the labor to get to them.

Re: Exhaust Leak,Flutter,Ticking?

You're not alone.. mine does it too. It was a bit unnerving after coming out of a 300C, which is the quietest of all HEMIs.. I still think it's an exhaust leak though.. I'll let you know if I figure out a way to fix it..
