Fuel Pump replacement?

Has anyone replaced the fuel pump assmbly just because?

It has an unreplaceable fuel filter in it, so I can only assume it must get dirty eventually.

Or can the filter be changed without buying a whole new assmbly?

Re: Fuel Pump replacement?

You could tear it apart, but it comes as one unit and I'm not sure if you would be able to find a filter for it.

Is there something wrong with yours?

Re: Fuel Pump replacement?

Nope, I am just thinking that after 100K miles it must be dirty or even a bit clogged. Just a thought I had. Other cars, usually older, have fuel filters you change out like oil filters or an air filter

Re: Fuel Pump replacement?

I would say it's fine, but if you are concerned and you have a scan tool or access to one, you can check the wave pattern on it.

You can also drop the tank and take a look inside to see if it's clean.

When I did mine it was perfectly clean.

If your not having any issues I'd say leave it be.

Re: Fuel Pump replacement?

I didn't know a scan tool could do such a thing, could my SCT do this?

Re: Fuel Pump replacement?

My pump is noisy, I have been quoted by dealer C $1,000 to replace it (swap replace too!). My Jeep has only done 50,000, could it just be clogged filters? here's hopeing...

To check pump visibly, you have to drop the fuel tank right & need it as empty as possible. Is it a quick / easy job?

Re: Fuel Pump replacement?

i just dropped mine.
its not to difficult of a job, the less gas the lighter it will be.
mine has 127k on it, original pump assembly...the filter looked fine when i looked.

i had dropped mine because i thought the pump quit on me...but now i am thinking that i have other issues after doing some testing.
