Re: Gibson or Magnaflow exhaust

In my experience the larger the diameter of pipe the more drone your going to get. Of course 3" will flow better then 2.5" but that will only matter in the top end and how many people drive top end most of the time anyway. I have had an mbrp 3" that droned like crazy!! I now have a magnaflow full cat and love this exhaust. No drone, perfect low exhaust note. Also because it's 2.5" I get better low end torque then a larger diameter pipe which is the range where most of my driving is done. The main restriction of the exhaust system is the stock mainfolds. Changing those to SRT8 manifolds will make a world of difference. Magnaflow is my choice.

Re: Gibson or Magnaflow exhaust

I've got no drone what-so-ever! I rarely use MDS but when I do, it's barely noticeable! But thats cuz I left the stock resonator on. Without it I'd have tons of drone! haha

Re: Gibson or Magnaflow exhaust

After doing some research, I decided to go with the Gibson stainless catback system. Had it installed this past week. I'm extremely pleased with the result. My main concern was drone. I have the 5.7L Hemi. The magnaflow tech confirmed to expect drone with this engine. Absolutely no drone with the Gibson. Probably not as loud as the Magnaflow, but a noticeable improvement from stock. Gibson was the right choice for me.

Per the Magnaflow Tech, drone will occur when the MDS (deactivates 4 cylinders) is activated. I don't believe 2005's have MDS.
