Gibson or Magnaflow exhaust

I did some searching and narrowed down my cat-back exhaust choices to these two. Im looking for as little drone as possible, a nice throaty note (but I want to stay in the legal decibel level). I like that the magnaflow is full stainless, but I've also read good things on the Gibson. I listened to both on youtube, but you can only tell so much from a video clip. If you have experience with these, your input would be greatly appreciated.

I know the poll is not really necessary, but figured what the hell.

Re: Gibson or Magnaflow exhaust

I had the gibson on my 5.7 for a year and a half. It was pretty good when you got on it. For commuting it was very quiet no noticeable drone. The only reason I got rid of it was because I did a full custom exhaust.

I just bought the magnaflow and I like it. Sounds great. I just replaced the muffler and left the factory tubing and resonator in. Way cheaper than the full catback system.

Plus on the 08-up 4.7's(not sure bout the size on pre 08) the tubing size is 2-3/4" from factory and the catback systems I saw were 2-1/2" for the 4.7 and V6 models, them go up to 3" for the Hemi, so I saw no point in the spending all the extra cash for smaller exhaust tubing.

Re: Gibson or Magnaflow exhaust

Thanks for the input so far, please keep it coming. I have the hemi, but maybe I'll call around to a few local muffler places, and shop prices for just a new muffler. See if that makes any sense.

Re: Gibson or Magnaflow exhaust

Only problem is we live on different coasts. How much you think it would cost to ship to NY. What kind of condition is it in, how's the tip look? (that just doesn't sound right) If you could get a quote and get back to me.

Re: Gibson or Magnaflow exhaust

I just got a Magnaflow 12867. Haven't put it on yet, but I hear nothing but good things about this bad boy! I too am just replacing the muffler and keeping the resonator on! I go off roading a lot and being that it's stainless works perfectly for me!

I get it in on Monday and I'll probably install then, and get some video...hopefully! :P

I just got my Stainless Gibson this week. All my research led me to the Gibson for the 5.7L. Like you, I was concerned about drone. I am told there is next to none with the Gibson.

The major thing to consider is that to my knowledge Gibson is the only company to use 3 inch piping, which is what the Hemi has.

I will be installing mine on Friday and will gladly give you a full report.

I didn't know magnaflow had a 3 inch. Are you talking just muffler or full cat back? I think Gibson is the only one to a have a full 3 inch cat back. I may be wrong but that is what I was told by few different folks.

Not sure the length off the top of my head. I will check tomorrow and post it.
