Re: Glasspacks on a 5.7...

Thanks man, i love big cams at idle

Im not sure how much your looking to spend on SRT manifolds, but have you considered the OBX SRT8 Headers on ebay? For $550 they come with connection pipes, although you'll have to figure out your cat solution. Once all was said and done i bet i spent at close to that on getting the stock SRT8 manifolds to work.

When i installed the SRT manifolds there was 1 bolt i couldnt get to on the drivers side. I left it out for about a year with no issues, but when i pulled the heads during the cam install i put it in. I recall using several different sized ratchets, wrenches, and i think i used a universal joint extension as well. I think they were all 10mm bolts?

Aside from that i just remember it taking time and patience. A lot of laying on top of the engine and feeling for bolts. I also think i removed the drivers wheel and wheel well to access a couple bolts; but I do not think that it was required.

I also thought about modifying the manifold to keep the EGR, but the thought of spending money to allow exhaust to go into my intake was not very appealing. I needed a custom tune anyway, so it was cheaper for me to just have it turned off.

After the cam install i must have bent the EGR tube slightly. Once reinstalling it all there was a substantial vacuum leak where the EGR tube enters the intake manifold. There's really nothing to secure this tube at the intake manifold, so if you accidently bend the pipe be prepared to spend some time triyng to get it all worked out. I ended up getting a billet tech EGR delete kit. Kinda pricey at $30 for just a tab of metal, but it is nicely made and works great!

Re: Glasspacks on a 5.7...

Thanks for the heads up on everything, I really appreciate it. Ideally I would delete the egr and go with tuning out the rear 02's (If I went the obx route) but I don't want to deal with the emissions issues. I got a pretty good deal on the SRT manifolds and mids. Overall it was cheaper than the OBX and from my understanding the srt8 cats flow better than our stock ones so I should be good to go. Eventually I am going to cam and go with ported heads but that wont be until after I move back to the east coast.

If I remember correctly you did everything on the floor...I give you a ton of credit you must have been smoked after everything was done. The hobby shop on base will let us rent a lift so that may help speed things up a bit. I am prepared to give up a whole weekend though to get it done lol

Edit: Did you remove the mounts and jack the engine up a few inches for some extra room to work with?

Re: Glasspacks on a 5.7...

No i didnt jack up the motor at all. I think that helps a lot with long tubes, since theyre such a big single piece. But it could help, im not really sure. The one thing you'll likely find frustrating is how the SRT8 manifolds are kinda solid. There's not a nice gap in between each pipe which is what really makes accessing some bolts difficult.

When installed my manifolds i think it took almost a full day to actually get them on, and then i went to a muffler shop that works on Sundays to finish it up. I had quite a bit of practice though after trying the LX shorties and finding out they wouldnt work.

Good luck man, im sure that lift will be helpful!
