Re: Hemi lifters

I'd make the dealer some work on it while it is still under warranty. Pulling the head gets pricy because you have to drain the coolant and oil.... Buy new bolts and head gasket. Then you will have to disconnect your mids and pull the manifold and head out as one. Cleaning the surfaces is a pain for reinstall. actually changing the lifter takes 45 seconds and is really simple. Dicking around with an exhaust manifold bolt is a thankless job also... And if it is broken off then pulling the head may be the only way to get it out. Not much space to work with.

If you can get them to pull your head and install a new lifter for free its worth it... Otherwise you can bandaid the problem with seafoam. My lifters were perfect at 83k when I pulled my heads, no signs of wear at all. My hemi ticks like a motherfuca.... But I don't care because she runs like a champ.

Re: Hemi lifters

Don't you just love that big cam/6.1 valve train noise, Dan? I took my LX in to the stealer to re-nitro the tires, and the service writer thought I was bringing in for the valve noise. I told him about the cam, but when others ask, I just tell them the engine is worn out. Only got 56K on it, so it's still like new.

That head business is exactly why I chose to do my cam swaps without pulling the heads. If you want to come up and do it for me, I'll do it though, LOL.

Re: Hemi lifters

I hear ya jeepcogman, the heads are a pain in the behind... I used a really nice snap on torque wrench with angle and thought I did them good, but still had to go back and retighten them. At some point the misses and I are going to get up to Idaho and see that beautiful country you call home.... I'll pack that torque wrench... :-)...I don't have enough machines here in california to wrench on, I'm feeling deprived!
