Infamous Broken Manifold Bolts

I'm about to tackle this job in a couple days. Any of you guys done it yet?

I looked at the heat shield the other day and two of the bolts are broken, so far...

Re: Infamous Broken Manifold Bolts

No 10mm bolts are rounded off. I can't catch them. Getting the jeep towed in the AM.

Re: Infamous Broken Manifold Bolts

Okay well above you stated they were broken and not rounded off. Not much you can do with that unless you can get a drill bit and bolt removal tap in there.

Re: Infamous Broken Manifold Bolts

For people that want to do this... It's not the broken studs that's are the problem, they were the easiest to remove. The 10mm bolts are super weak. You need to be very careful and use the proper tools. A gear wrench is a must. I also picked up some more tools to help.

Re: Infamous Broken Manifold Bolts

While it's apart, replace all gaskets so you won't have to do it a second time. I am sure it's not your favorite job. I've replaced header flange gaskets (custom tubular headers) and it sure wasn't any fun.

Re: Infamous Broken Manifold Bolts

Manifold is warped. Replacing that as well. This thing is going to run like a dream when I'm done with everything.

Re: Infamous Broken Manifold Bolts

Your lucky your doing this to a 4.7 and not a hemi there is no space to work on the hemis at all. The bolts rust out pretty badly and break which sucks
