Instruction on changing the TPS on 05 WK Limited 4.7

guys, this will be my first hands on operation on my 05 Grand Cherokee: to change the TPS and hopefully that will solve the idling problem.

Did some research and the whole process looks alright. If there could be a step by step instruction with things to watch out for, that will be extremely helpful!

Re: Instruction on changing the TPS on 05 WK Limited 4.7

4.7L

The TPS is located on the throttle body (2).

1. Remove air duct and tube at throttle body.
2. Disconnect TPS electrical connector.
3. Remove two TPS mounting bolts (screws) (5).
4. Remove TPS from throttle body.

4.7L

The throttle shaft end of throttle body slides into a socket in TPS. The TPS must be installed so that it can be rotated a few degrees. If sensor will not rotate, install sensor with throttle shaft on other side of socket tangs. The TPS will be under slight tension when rotated.

1. Install TPS (2) and two retaining bolts (5).
2. Tighten bolts to 7 Nm (60 in. lbs.) torque.
3. Manually operate throttle control lever by hand to check for any binding of TPS.
4. Connect TPS electrical connector to TPS.
5. Install air duct/air box to throttle body.

Re: Instruction on changing the TPS on 05 WK Limited 4.7

maybe a completely stupid question:
for "Tighten bolts to 7 Nm (60 in. lbs.) torque. ", how tight is this?

5 ft. lbs on a torque wrench or if you don't have one "first sign of tight"

...you know, don't give it any extra turn

Re: Instruction on changing the TPS on 05 WK Limited 4.7

do I really need to remove the air duct/air box ? If I can reach the TPS, it would be fine to leave the air box on, right?
