I am sure that this question has been brought up many many times before, but im new so ill ask anyway. I am wondering which jeep is faster from a dead start a 4.7 or a 5.7 I have seen videos of the 4.7 just blowing the Hemis out of the water, which dosent make sense to me considering that the 5.7 has a bigger engine. Are their modifications that can be made to the Hemi to make it so its just as fast as the 4.7, or are the videos i have seen just misleading? Thanks in advance!!!!

Re: 5.7L vs 4.7L

I had a 2004 GC Freedom, this vehicle had a 4.7 HO with 3.73 gearing, I now have a 2006 Hemi GC Limited. I have obviously driven both extensively and IMO it does feel like the 4.7 HO was quicker till about 30-40 MPH, after that the 4.7 HO does not stand a chance against the HEMI. I would love to see a HEMI GC with the 3.73 gearing that would be impressive I bet.

After racing my sisters 2000 GC 4.7L and my dad's 2003 GC 4.7L i can say that the 5.7L 2011 GC is a little faster. It was a close race, usually under a car length but the hemi took it each time. I have to admit, i did lose to my brothers 1998 GC 5.9L. Still haven't lived that one down. My guess would be the 4.7L's were modified.

Re: 5.7L vs 4.7L

In my opinion my 5.7 is slow. I would hate to see how a 4.7 or a 3.7 would run. To my jeeps defence, it is the heaviest vehicle I have owned.

Glad that someone that owns a 5.7L said that. Saying that a 5.7L is slow to someone who owns one is fighting words for some reason

I read somewhere that the 4.7 WJ's are around the same quickness to 60 as the Hemi Wk's. But then again I don't believe everything I read online.
The 4.7L H.O is.

Misleading to say the least.

My previous Jeep was a 99 JGC Limited with the 4.7 L engine RFE 45 trans and QD. It was just as quick as my '12 Hemi up to 60 mph; beyond 60 mph the Hemi wins hands down. BTW the '12 WK2 5.7 averages two mpg more the '99 which is pretty amazing considering the Overland Summit weighs 1100 lbs more but also has a lower drag coefficient.

Re: 5.7L vs 4.7L

I believe the 5.7 WK's do have 3.73 gears. I could see where a good running 4.7 WJ (probably lighter) could hang with a ~5000+ lb. (w/driver) 5.7 WK for a bit, but probably not the whole 1/4 mile, if that's what they were racing. The 1/8 mile may be a little closer.

Theres no reason to get a 4.7; the 5.7 is far better in every respect and gets similar mpg THe only way a 4.7 might keep up is if it is freshly tuned, against a poorly maintatined 5.7. Any well maintained 5,7 will blow the doors offr a 4.7 and there are a myriad of upgrades for the 5.7; i.e., ported TB, cam, tuner will add considerable getup and go while improving mpg too.
