Long Life Engine Oil Mobil 1 5w-30 15k

Ive been using Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w-30 15k mile oil for 2 years now in my 05 4.7 WK. Until now i had the extra $ to change it every 6k miles to make up for the added cost of the oil. Now i am in even tighter financial woes so i was thinking of going to full 15k that Mobil 1 advertises its GUARANTEED good for. i am halfway right now. Today i am going to go out and change the oil filter since i am at the half way mark. Does anyone else use this oil or go 15k?

Should i not go more then 6k miles or can i trust Mobile 1?

My daily driving is nothing intense, mostly either very short highway trips (i dont go far often) and country back roads and some stop and go. Though my WK does do alot of Idling for more then 10 mins at a time. (dont ask why).

Oh and i am within 500 miles of 100k miles. 40k of which i have put on myself since i bought it with 60k on it.

"Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W-30 is made with a proprietary blend of high-performance synthetic base stocks and fortified with a precisely balanced additive component system. Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W-30 is designed for today’s longer service intervals – guaranteed to protect for up to 15,000 miles between oil changes*. It is recommended by ExxonMobil for use in many vehicles manufactured by Honda, Toyota, Ford, and Chrysler.

* Please follow the recommendations in your owner's manual while your car is under warranty."

Re: Long Life Engine Oil Mobil 1 5w-30 15k

Idk man, there are other great oils on the market for lower prices then that stuff, so if your strapped for cash get something a little less expensive so you can continue to change it at the regular intervals, but thats just me...

Re: Long Life Engine Oil Mobil 1 5w-30 15k

Well the other part is that I do my own oil changes and I don't have a garage to use so its nice to only have to do it a few times a year and I don't usually have to do it at all over the winter.

Re: Long Life Engine Oil Mobil 1 5w-30 15k

You should be fine at 15k as long as you use a high quality oil filter; I use the filters from K & N, and they are well constructed and very easy to remove with a built in nut on the top. Do not use FRAM as these are very crappy construction in comparison. There should also be no need to change the oil filter halfway if it is a good one.

Re: Long Life Engine Oil Mobil 1 5w-30 15k

I use Napa Gold oil filters because I got 8 free from my friend. The are a mid to high grade filter according to reviews I've read on oil filter quality and construction.

Re: Long Life Engine Oil Mobil 1 5w-30 15k

Not sure how well they live up to the claim, but a buddy of mine says he has good luck with the Bosch distance plus filters. They claim to hold more dirt so maybe they will filter better up to the full 15k miles of the Mobil 1 oil.

Re: Long Life Engine Oil Mobil 1 5w-30 15k

dont listen to these guys...Ive used the M1 ext perf.in my jeep from day 1 and in high hp applications....like my 600 hp 3000gt vr4. I alos use the K&N gold filters. Its the ONLY oil I use....BUT...I also have it evaluated in each vehicle by blackstone labs. The next time you change the oil...take a sample and send it to them and see the results. they will make recomendations for the use.
Also...FYI-walmart sells the m1 ext. performance in the jug for like $21 when its on sale. I just bought two here locally.

Re: Long Life Engine Oil Mobil 1 5w-30 15k

Mobil 1 used to be the best. Now its questionable. The best oils are made from PAO/Esters. An example of this oil is German Castrol (Syntec 0w-30). PAO/Esters are considered Group IV. All evidence points to Mobil using Group III. Mobil does not admit this, but they also dont deny it either.

The reason for the change is due to regulation changes. To be considered a full synthetic years ago you had to use Group IV bases, that changed years back. Now to be considered full synthetic you can use Group III bases. Of course corporations (Mobil being one of them) only care about profits, so nearly all of turned to the cheaper/ more profitable groupIII bases. Bobistheoilguy.com has a lot of good reading on this.

When I change my oil the first time, ill probably give German Castrol a try (Only the 0w-30 formula is group IV).

Bobistheoilguy is now irrelevant because its becoming known over the internet that they have affiliations with oil vendors and is biased towards certain brands. Call me a liar or call it false but its getting to be a popular theory.

I agree with you for the most part. You can obviously tell they are getting paid by some "people", but they still have good info. Like true synthetics VS. Group III synthetics. I trust their older threads more than their new stuff. My whole point is that Mobil 1 is over priced, considering you can get some group IV for the same price. But if your getting it for $21 a jug, then your all good. Over or around $6 a quart and its better to spend on a more quality product.
