Major score!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I was towing my boat on for a 3 day weekend last week, when we got to our destination I was hearing some strange knocking noise in my Hemi GC. WTH I only use Mobil 1 oil at 5K intervals and follow the rest of the maintence schedule???? Next morning noise is gone?? I determine it only happens when hot, further investigation reveals the noise is in the catalytic convertor. This Jeep has 77,800 miles on it. Wheeled it into the dealer, picked it up a few days later new catalytic convertor installed, ZERO cost to me. How cool is that to get a new convertor only 2200 miles before the 8/80000 expires!!! going to order the Gibson cat back later today.

Re: Major score!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unless they "butched" it, you probably got two new ones, as they are both part of the "Y" pipe....a one piece component. Glad you got it, but what caused it to fail? Was it damaged externally, or total internal failure? Strange, in any case, as they don't usually fail outright without cause.

Re: Major score!!!!!!!!!!!!

short trips will cause catalytic converter failure, it will load up the cat with HC's and not burn them off... then the one long trip it does get it gets them REALLY hot towing and melts down with all the HC's that have not been burned off finally burning off. My dealer has had an srt10 viper wih 6k miles on it in for a plugged cat which cracked the exhaust manifold (yikes)... not driving vehicles how they are ment to be driven causes them to fail. Ask guys that own diesels

Re: Major score!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes it did have a dent on it. I have had many new Jeeps and I think that may have made a difference, I also work in the industry as well but my receipt does show that a factory rep looked at. Yes I did get the whole Y pipe assembly.
