Re: MM 85 mm ported TB results

Dang, I may have to look into this just for the added MPG benefit.

Except I don't usually run 60-anything on the highway!!

Re: MM 85 mm ported TB results

A CAI does nothing but make noise in comparison, where this makes a difference, and at all rpms. THe hemi sings just a bit louder and I would guess 16-18 hp across the board and the same for torque. You will notice the difference right away, if your hemi is in good tune. I did all maint right on schedule, but it still was not up to snuff until I gve it the seafoam treatment, which woke it up considerably. I can barely tell when MDS switches on and off now, where before it lugged in 4 cyl mode.

Re: MM 85 mm ported TB results

So let me ask this - MMP offers both an 85mm and 87mm. What difference would you see between the 2 besides 2mm?

Re: MM 85 mm ported TB results

I was under the impression that a port/polished tb will lower low end torque.

The 87 is not as suitable for a stock 5.7. it is more for modded hemi's (by that I mean cam, ported head, etc) and it needs a tune for WOT A/F.
THe 85 is bolt on and works with no tune.

Low end torque is much better with the 85mm than the stock TB. The 85 mm iis a taper bore.

If it is a dog, you need to resolve that problem first, before throwing money into any upgrades. Mine was running great, with plenty of low end when I installed the 85 mm. IF you dont have a CC, your TB is going to be all gunked up, unless you have cleaned it regularly. On top of regular service, and having a CC, I replaced MAP, EGR and did the Seafoam treatment. Those made a big difference. IF you are buying an 85 TB, make sure you install a CC.

Re: MM 85 mm ported TB results

their website says that the 87mm one doesnt need a tune or anything special. With that being said does the extra 2mm make that much of a difference? price difference is only 20.00 brand new

Re: MM 85 mm ported TB results

What do you do to mate the new 85mm TB to the intake? Some sort of step up adapter? I dont know the terminology.

THe 87 does in fact need WOT A/F tuning, as it will be off, and it will have less low end torque compared to the 85. The 85 is the best one for driving on the street. Bigger does not mean it is better. If you have a tuner, internal engine mods, and only want to do 1/4 mile runs, then get the 87.
