Re: mopar or champion plugs

I had to disconnect & move around a couple of fuse bank boxes on the driver's side of the bay to get to 4 of the plugs. Killed the connection anyway.

Re: mopar or champion plugs

ALWAYS disconnect negative These tools made my job easier:

2 - 6" extensions
2 - 3" extensions
Swivel

I didnt have to take anything off using those.

From DodgeRam.info ( http://dodgeram.info/Engine-Gas/Spar...plghnbook.html ):
"Once the shell is formed and threaded, it is zinc-plated to extend its life and reduce the chances of seizure in aluminum cylinder heads. Our latest technology combines TinTac" and ULTRASEAL'M coatings over the plating to further reduce corrosion and seizure. This patented process is the result of our development work with 100,000-mile plugs and is used on all Champion spark plugs."
You probably can't see the coating. Other good info there for you to read & digest.

Do not need to disconnect the negative battery terminal, but it won't hurt to do so. Will need to reset all of your Sirius stations if you do. Mine takes a day or so to settle out every time the battery is disconnected.

Re: mopar or champion plugs

Above posters are correct, that it does have a plated coating, however I have had 3 champions get stuck in my XJ 4.0 heads. My theory is that since its a thin layer of plating(not liquid-like) when the threads start to grind against eachother as you tighten it damages/removes the coating. Adding a little anti-seize to the champion will not hurt anything, and imho gives me a little extra protection/piece of mind. I'm sure that the plating works 99% of the time, but the 1 time it doesn't you'll wish you had of spent the extra 99 cents. Again I'm not arguing what the Champion site says, I'm just relaying my own personal experiences.

...for 5.7L HEMI's (model years 05-08), the plugs were Champion copper core and changed at 30K miles. WKJeeps.com gives MOPAR no. also. Champion 570 box shows MOPAR no. after the primary number.

Other engines may have different plug materials and change intervals.
