try this thread

there should be some 4.7 exhaust videos in there so you can listen for yourself

Re: muffler choices

Im also very new to my jeep, or any v8 for that matter. I did countless hours on what to do. I went to my local muffler shop where they let me try like 6 different mufflers before welding the chosen one on to my stock pipe. I end up going with the Flowmaster super 40. It was between that and the super 44. The 40 seemed a little tad louder and deeper when i stand on it. I also have an afe intake. The only downfall I have found is when the mds kicks on, it sounds like garbage. Aside from that the sound is exactly what I wanted...not too loud and woke it up a tad. I also left the stock resonator on.

Hey, I live 45 minutes from Boston, just one thing to say:
Stay away from Flowmaster mufflers.

Re: muffler choices

the best i have heard on the 4.7...is to remove the stock suitcase sized muffler. Add in just piping in its plave and then add a simple resonator just before the tip

x2 being in Boston, I would assume you went to or talked to someone from Lou's and they are pushing a flowmaster on you?

I would do what Scott recommends here. If you don't like it you can always add a muffler to it later. It will be cheaper to add then it will be to change/replace.

richxgior is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: muffler choices

the magnaflow 20 inch oval mufflers sound pretty nice and don't carry that much drone! Very deep and the plus is there stainless steel so they last forever!

Which lou's? Go with a magnaflow. If you think it's too loud you can always add a resonator. But I recommend buying a magnaflow and not the lou's version of a magnaflow.
