Re: My 6.4L 392 Hemi Stroker is ALIVE!!

So i found a 545rfe manual online, here are the removal instructions. Looks pretty straight forward: www.earthwoodcabinet.com/log/Removal.pdf

Re: My 6.4L 392 Hemi Stroker is ALIVE!!

Still no tune. Supposed to happen next week, but i've heard that many times before. I did do a 0-60 run with the Trinity. Not too bad for a 100 degree day and no tune. Plus keep in mind the lift and BFG M/T's

I've already started thinking about doing a more aggressive cam. Then this morning i had a thought about adding a fuel cell where the spare used to be, removing the stock fuel tank, and then doing a true dual exhaust system, possibly with side exits similar to that on a viper with cutting through the plastic side skirts. I'd try to make it look as production as possible of course and think it could be done fairly cheaply. Just a wild thought i had this morning though. Reality is i'll prob just get it tuned and sell it then buy the Viper i test drove last week.

15 gallon fuel cell $280 and measures 18" x 20" x 10", should fit where the spare was

I just emailed asking about the tune again, so we'll see. With the Texas heat peaking lately, i've started feeling more surging lately, hopefully the tune will even all that out

WOW! Never saw this, awesome thread though! Sweet Jeep too CTSV. Always wonder if an offroad guy would do a 6.1 or 6.4 motor, guess you didnt have much of a choice but you definitely came out as better off haha, jmo. If you ever see this, Id be curious tom know, how is it off-road with that setup you have?

Ive seen some sweet wrangler 7.0L swaps and some other guys also swapped the 6.1 into his Jeep who hydrolocked it (unless that was you too?) but man this is really unique and extra awesome haha! Ultimate toy is definitely a burnt orange fully loaded and lifted Wrangler with a 426 TT in it and a fat locker out back with some huge knobby tires, something that could fling sand/dirt for miles!

Re: My 6.4L 392 Hemi Stroker is ALIVE!!

Hey man, thanks for the comments. It's still great offroad although i do much less of it these days. I spent this morning swapping the plugs and O2 sensors out. I have a bug cam, springs, rods, ready to go in, now im just waiting for my Cometic head gaskets to get here so i can get it all installed. The only downside from the engine so far has been the transmission. I've been through 4 swaps/rebuilds and still dont feel to confident about it. Apparently the 545rfe transmission can handle the power, so im not sure why i keep having problems. After the cam goes in, if i have any other tranny issues im going with a Sharadon performance tranny so i wont have to worry anymore

I've been skimming on this thread so I may have missed it. Are you going to keep the lift and tires on? If not your not, please don't

Wow! 400 rwhp! That must feel great even at half throttle. The WK stock cooling system should be good enough to keep things running cool as well! I'm jealous as hell!

Ahhhh the tranny. Yeah I mean from everything I know about the 545rfe and the NAG1 they seem to both be built very strong, good up to 500 tq/hp or so under normal driving haha whatever that means, who knows! Did you look into maybe a salvaged stuff? Also, the rfe has the low gears compared to the normal 5speed nag so I dont know if that has anything to do with your problem? If its been rebuilt and keeps crapping out the repair shop should certainly be able to tell you what's happening/going wrong with it imo, should tell you if its eating the clutches up, or is it a programming issue, valvebody problems, TCM stuff? Im sure you can figure it out.

Curious, didnt whomever rebuilt/looked it over have any input from what they were seeing when they tore it down? I bet the W5A580 in the 3.7/SRT would work for you. Seen them for under $1k at salvage spots any other places on the net. Obviously used driveline/engine parts are always risky without seeing firsthand but at the same time compared to what I bet new Shardon setup costs, maybe worth experamenting with before hand? Id def say go ahead and just get the new built tranny if you can though haha! Always the best route, plus a warranty

Anyway g/lwith getting her up and running strong, least you got the big investment out of the way

Re: My 6.4L 392 Hemi Stroker is ALIVE!!

I missed this thread also??? I have an 09 GC that i installed a complete srt8 exhaust and it works awesome!! I removed my trailer hitch and got the pipes right up in there and it looks great!! It is not too hard to change the hitch out... I can do it in about 30 minutes.... I occaisionally tow my boat and just remove the hitch and exhaust pipes right at the rear axle and all is good.......... it is even quieter believe it or not but i did remove the reso's so i have the dreaded drone at 2,200rpm..... I am also going to get the compstar stroker crank and rods and build a 392 sometime soon. Larger valves and bigger VVT cam and cnc ported heads should get me 500HP easy at the crank..... I will try and find a pic of my pipes.... TBF
