Hey guys, So 4 months after i hydrolocked my hemi i'm excited to say she's back home! Engine was bored and stroked to 392ci and compression is up near 10.7:1 which is pretty high. I think the SRT8 6.1L is 10.3:1?
So since i drove her last this is what has been added:
392 Stroker (More specs later)
Ported and Polished Heads
Stock SRT8 Cam
SRT8 Exhaust Springs used on all valves
Stock SRT8 Exhaust
Needless to say the butt dyno is off the charts! The engine still needs to be broken in before we dyno and tune, but man this thing feels FAST! They said 400rwhp (assuming 25% loss) should be well within reach. I think that would be 533 at the crank? Either way it'll be a few weeks until we know for sure. My Cadillac CTS-V was at 393rwhp off the bottle, so i know what 400hp feels like, at least in a 3900lb car, well the WK is about 4400lbs? I gotta say the feeling is actually pretty familiar.
We will change the shift points as the SRT8 cam shifts the power band a bit higher, but we'll know for sure once it's on the dyno. Im not sure what the "torque management" is everyone is talking about, but i would imagine it is still on and it's still fast. Also i have to say all of my perceptions of this engine have come from only using 50-60% throttle. I have yet to go WOT as they said i need to have a few hundred miles before doing that. It's going to be hard to wait though.
The exhaust is a 2 week old stock SRT8 catback. I bought a Magnaflow dual in dual out, but they didnt install it. Im glad they didnt, for now at least. The SRT8 exhaust sounds great. There's just a very deep sound at idle, it's actually fairly quiet at idle and on the highway. But when i "partially" step on it, man it sounds good. I can see now my fuel mileage will definitely drop due to me wanting to hear that exhaust
I'm pretty excited just to have my WK back but the new power makes it even better. Not surprisingly there isn't much to see under the hood. I may modify the stock engine cover to note the stroker etc... but that'll be down the road. It's still pretty dirty in there, the engine itself is sparkling but the bay could use a good washing. the only tell that any work has been done at all is the crank pulley..
Im not 100% in love with the exhaust look, love the sound though. I really thought they'd just cut off the tips and "dump" the exhaust in the spare tire area, but they elected to leave them on. They were actually going to take off my hitch, glad they asked first! They did say if i ever decide to take the hitch off that they'd move the exhaust tips up for me. We'll see. I dont plan on towing much, but it's a great recovery point if i get stuck, plus i have that hitch swing spare tire carrier, so 2 reasons to leave it on. The exhaust looks unique for sure. I just think it looks a little busy back there now, but im sure ill come around to it. Maybe once i clean it up and see that chrome shine i'll like it more.
