no airaid intake jr kit for 4.7?

Hey to everyone I'm in need of some knowledge. A few weeks ago my buddy installed an air aid jr kit on his 5.7 hemi so he could retain the stock air box but get rid of the original intake with all the chambers. Of course when I when to look around for one air aid doesn't make one for the 4.7 nor does any company i found for that matter. I look all over the forum and couldn't find much. A few guys have mad intakes with PVC but some people say it isn't safe. Has anyone made something like this or have any info that could help me? I want to retain the stock air box but have a strait tube from the air box to the TB.

Re: no airaid intake jr kit for 4.7?

I'm confused. You want to keep the intake box? Or you want to keep the plenum box?

The plenum box is attached right at the throttle body and has "4.7L" written on it. The AFE Stage 2 kit (http://www.autoanything.com/air-filt...0A2601488.aspx) removes the filter box and replaces it with theirs but attaches direct to the plenum box. You're not doing any more good with that type of kit than by simply replacing the stock air filter with a K&N or AFE. The plenum box has baffles in it and causes turbulence. It also drastically quiets down the intake. In other words....reduces maximum HP gains from an intake kit. I bought this kit a while ago thinking it would replace the entire stock intake but immediately took it out, so I have some personal experience here.

In my opinion, if you're going to spend $250 on this kind of kit, your're wasting your money. Buy the K&N FIPK and get rid of that plenum box. Or spend $30 on an aftermarket filter for the stock setup.

Simply replacing the intake tube won't do any good either. All of the aftermarket pieces as a whole make the gains you're after.

Hope that helps.

Hello SAM3,

You could use our (UBI) U-Build-It Intake system to use as the tube, and combine that with our drop in replacement filter. That could be your own JR. system.

Thanks,
David

How much is this David? I may add this to my airaid kit for my 2011 Durango V6.

Re: no airaid intake jr kit for 4.7?

Exactly what I was looking for! I want to keep my factory resonator as I don't want all the intake noise. But I would like to get rid of that factory hose with all those ribs and such in it.

Re: no airaid intake jr kit for 4.7?

I had one on my 99 4.7. I did both the airaid jr and the full CAI and it ran better with the airaid jr kit. I wish they made one for my 09 4.7

Re: no airaid intake jr kit for 4.7?

Gentleman,

I apologize about the late response.

For the 4.7L engine, The 3.5" system would work perfect for you.

Depending on how you design the system, you could create a CAI or run it directly to the stock airbox as well and create a JR style kit.

You are also welcome to call me direct with any questions at all

Thanks,
David
