Re: OBX Long Tube header 2007 5.7 Install

I'm looking at either getting the the headers wrapped or ceramic coated. Wondering if you guys have done either. I'm leaning more towards the wrap for cost savings.

Don't wrap them. That'll cause them to retain heat and crack. You could ceramic coat them... But with how tight our engine bays are your not really gonna see it. Anyways after they are put thru a bunch of heat cycles they turn a blackish color.

I'm not doing it for the looks. Doing it all in the name of Thermal Tuning. I would think wrapping would help with cracking, since being insulated would help mitigate extreme heat cycles.

I have read through your build thread, it is one bad 3.7.

Wrapping will shorten their life. Very well known even if stainless.

I have headers as you know. Mine are not wrapped. There is a second member on here who also installed them. Butbhe wrapped his. Less then 7 months later both headers were cracked. His set and mine are stainless as well.

So instead i sprayed a ceramic based paint to coat them. I know you want thermal tuning but do not wrap them, even though a wrap is the best for it. Get them coated. Your headers will last significantly longer

Re: OBX Long Tube header 2007 5.7 Install

I picked up the headers this past weekend. I didn't realize the crossover tube clamps to the mid-pipe on the drivers side. Did you guys just clamp it or end up welding it together? I would prefer to weld it, but i would have to get it test fitted first and welded so i can ceramic coat the headers and mid-pipes.

The OBX clamp sucks. I put a high quality banjo clamp.
