OBX Long Tube header 2007 5.7 Install

I'll be picking up OBX headers when my taxes come back along with SRT mid-pipes for the cats. I've done a quite of bit of researching and think I have it all planned out now. Seeing as people have done this setup on here, I was wanting any tips or tricks to the install. What's the best way for running pipe after the cats. Measure twice, cut once.

Get a buddy and alot of beer. Then proceed to cuss at snapped bolts and lack of room.

For the passenger side you need to remove the air intake all the way lower box too, your serpentine belt, the upper rad hose, the alternator, and then the overflow coolant box moved. Also for the passenger side you need go remove the inner wheel liner to get access to the back bolts. Few normal rivets and a couple push ones. I just replaced them all with normal rivets.

Driver side is a huge pain. Do not remove the oil dipstick. Removing the inner fender liner is first. Then unbolt the steering column so it some play. I personally dropped the ac compressor to get more room. 4 bolts in all and its easier to remove than put in. I unplugged all the connections on this side and moved wires all out of the way. Took the battery and the stand it sits on all out. You might need to move the power steering if you need more room. I didnt but greenwayer did. You have to remove the forward driveshaft.. 4 bolts up front and then 8 i think on the back. Make sure you mark the driveshaft so you know how it goes back on. Another note on the dipstick me and greenwayer just bent it out of the way while leaving it connected.

For removing the old mid pipes i personally just cut them off with a saw. The bolts on mine werent coming off. Speaking of bolts.. use 6.1 mopar ones form the dealer or get the part numbers and get them online. Header bolts are 10mm the studs for the heat shield are 13mm if i remember right. Use plenty of PB so you dont snap the bolts too. Also do not use the obx gaskets get new mopar ones.

Take pictures and organize the bolts so you remember it. It took me a few days alone and not knowing what i was doing.

Also do not drive around with just the headers on. Have to use their mid pipes till you get your ones installed. The front 02s are to close to the end of the pipe and will cause engine knocking if you dont put them on. I have a clip on youtube with how it sounds if your curious with just headers.

Thought i scared you off lol. Also come 200ish miles after you have put them on gotta retighten them.

Another tip for the drivers side is that for the bolts on the bottom make sure the two middle ones are in before you bring up the headers . For the life of me it took about 3 hours for one of the bolts cause the angle and my hand didnt want to work. Only say this cause after doing the passenger the only ones i could leave in when i brought up the headers were the bottom front two. Might have done something a little wrong when trying to put it on but the space is limited so i just removed the other bolts

Your not scaring me off that easily, I've got a 1987 dodge pickup I'm building from the ground up.

PB blaster is so crappy compared to what I use in the military. We use airkroil, it's way better. You can buy i in the civilian world also, once you use it you won't use PB blaster or WD40 again.

Well at least I know the majority of the project is dealing with the headers. I'll make sure to thoroughly cuss out it's China made mother.

I feel you on letting the boots do the work while I smoke. Do you have a video clip with the exhaust fully put together. I would like a picture of how the exhaust is ran out the back of the vehicle. I want to run it duals all the way through.

I'll see if I can post a video a little bit later. But I've got a bigger motor but you'll get a general idea.

I would appreciate all you have to offer sleeps and greenwayer.

How much bigger of a motor do you have greenwayer?
