Oil Filter

So I recently changed my oil.. Well yesterday I put the new filter on, and the drain plug was stripped.. So I had to get a new plug and today replaced it. Well since I ran to the store that night, I mixed old oil in the new filter. Today I took it off, drained the old crap out for the most part and put it back on.. IS this going to be safe or should I get a new filter?

You may just be the first person to ever change their oil BACKWARDS. You're supposed to change the oil filter at the same time you change your oil. Not several days later. Were you driving around with a stripped drain plug? How did you not know it was stripped when you originally put it back in and tried to tighten it? How much oil did you lose pulling off the oil filter without all the oil drained?

I'm confused.

Re: Oil Filter

Step 1 remove drain plug and drain old oil. Step 2, remove old oil filter. Step 3 install new oil filter. Step 4 fill crankcase with new oil. Advice... Take it to someone else for all work from now on.

Hahaha I didn't ask for lippy responses.. I done oil changes before on this jeep was the first time though.. so whoever owned it before me tightened the piss in the nut. I had to go to autozone to get a new nut so I could strip it off. I don't own a garage so I worked on it outside. Well it was getting late and cold so did it the next day.. took the new oil off emptied it and put it back on.. jeeps running fantastic but thanks for oil changing tips sigh

You should be fine man. There couldn't have been that much dirt and stuff collected in the new filter in such a short amount of time. Don't push a 10,000 mile oci this time though. What kind of oil you using? I would recommend doing short oci for the first three or four changes because you don't know who had the car before and how well the maintained it. 3-4 short ones with a good oil that has a lot of detergents will help with any sludge.

I the flip side... I did 3000 mile religious oci for the first 50k with mostly mopar oil. Then 33k with he qaucker state fully synthetic 5w20... Also 3000 oci. When I took my heads off at 83k they had no sludge at all. So 3000k oci is a bit overkill.

The one thing that did piss me off was all the oil that got cycled into my intake, down the intake ports, and settled on my pistons... was a dirty little brown trail. The mds cylinders were especially caked. Took me four hours to clean the pistons with carb cleaner and a little razor blade. Now I have a catch can and would advise all others to get one also. That burnt oil cannot be good for that catalytic converters when is breaks loose. I would be afraid of doing a seafoam treatment through the brake vacuum and causing a lot of the burnt oil on the pistons to break free and take a ride into the cats.

Was a little rushed writing that this morning. So here it goes . Went to walmart Saturday evening , and bought 6 quarts of mobile 1 5-30 sinth, and a fram filter.. when I change oil I usually change the oil filter first than change the oil.. it was about 5pm at night losing daylight and warmth fast.. I changed the new filter fast now just the oil left to change. I bought the jeep a month ago or so and decided it was time to change the oil.. whoever changed the oil before me, tightened the oil plug so tight it began to strip .. now mind you it was Saturday and Monday I was leaving for Wyoming and needed the oil done.. After several attempts of trying to untighten the plug, I threw in the towel and called AutoZone.. I asked for a oil plug and vice grip sockets.. well AutoZone isn't exactly close but they had the part I needed.. unfortunately I already threw the other oil filter away.. so I drove with the new filter on to autozone.. got there bought the stuff and drove home.. next day went back out took off the new filter emptied the old oil and cleaned it out as much as possible. I than proceeded to budge the stubborn bolt lose with the vice grips.. even those didn't pry it loose.. I used a torch and heated the bolt finally it came loose.. I emptied the old oil put the new plug on and filled with new oil..

now there shouldn't be any confusion to what happened
