So I bought this jeep a month ago and was attempting to change the oil.. well the nut stripped.. now I did replace the old oil filter with the new one, is that gonna be issues if I drive it? Also how do I change my oil now?
Take the skid plate off to get more room to work with. Maybe try pounding a 12mm socket onto the plug... If you have a hemi the drain plug is 13mm. Make sure you turn counterclockwise! The drain plug should not be on that tight to where it is a problem to get it off. If one size down socket doesn't work, use some vice grips. You need to change the oil every 4-6k miles with Dino oil and 5-8 with synthetic.
The oil drain plug on my 2012 Grand Cherokee with the 5.7 Hemi is absolutly frozen. A plastic drain pan with a brass plug seat and a aluminum plug. My local dealer could not rermove and said I had to replace the pan. Seems like a very poor design combining the brass and aluminum.
Anyone else with this problem?? Are brass plugs available??
If/when you get it out (or replace the pan) get a Fumoto Drain Valve, Welcome to Oil Drain Valve and you'll never have to worry about removing the plug again. I've had them on both my Hemi vehicles for years without issue. Just changed the oil yesterday on one of them and, as always, it's a piece of cake. Never even spill a drop or have oil running down your arm. I use the ones with the nipple and have hoses attached that I cap and tuck up under the cover when not in use.

It sounds like a good idea but wouldn't it be risky going off-road. However remote the possibility, if a rock or a stick knocks open the value, one could be stuck out in the never never with a destroyed engine.
If you've seen one of these valves, that would be almost impossible. The rock or stick would have to lift the lever and turn the valve at the same time, which in reality is a little more difficult than the video shows. There are a few guys with these though and wanted a little more insurance and have installed a small hose clamp around the lever and valve to insure it stays in the closed position. It prevents the lever from being lifted and unlocked. I amost think, because it's bigger than a drain plug, I'd be more worried about breaking the whole thing off at the threads than it opening. I would also hope any serious off roaders would have a real good skid plate protecting the oil pan.....not the plastic one that comes from the factory.
