PCV valve

Hey all,
I want to inspect PCV valve but I have a few questions:

1. Where exactly is it?
2. What am I looking for during inspection?
3. Any tricks to replacing it?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: PCV valve

Its right on the oil fill tube. There are tons of threads on this, type PCV into the search bar on the top of the page...

Re: PCV valve

So, I checked out other threads and it turns out after a trip to oreilly's that my pcv valve is on top of driver side header closest to the firewall. They don't have the part but local dealer does - 20 bucks. Question is - (and I couldn't find info here) how do I get that thing out? It's in a wasps nest of crap. Anyway - has anyone on hear ever changed that particularly located pcv valve?

Re: PCV valve

i checked my PCV valve on my 05 wk w/hemi this weekend bc i was having some hesitation. it rattles just like new, i cleaned it with TB cleaner just to make sure, but it sounded brand new. My wk has 108000 miles on it and i think its the original part. should i replace it or you guys think its ok. can a PCV valve be too worn out? or is it usually just stuck?

Re: PCV valve

pcv valve should be changed every 30k according to wkjeeps.com

http://www.wkjeeps.com/wk_maintenance.htm#PCV

might as well change it for $20

Re: PCV valve

Tigg488, I have never seen nor heard of any Hemi PCV Valve sticking or getting gummed up. They are very poorly made, IMO, and even a new valve will bypass oil. Your best bet to check how inefficiently it is working is to check the backside of the throttlebody butterfly. If it's crapped up real bad (and especially if there is puddling in the intake plenum) it's not doing it's job. With that mileage, and if you suspect it's the original, I'd change it anyway. Only cost about $20 or so. I install mine with the hole in the valve facing rearward. Don't know if it helps, but it takes away the direct path to the intake, and hopefully slows down the movement of oil through the valve. If your butterfly is real bad, clean it and also consider getting a catch can to prevent it from getting crapped up again.
