So I just got my 09 WK V6 3.7L a few days ago and I want to change the oil in the car. My question is, which oil should i use "Mobile1, Castrol, Royal Purple and etc" and what is the difference between regular oil and synthetic oil besides the 3k miles vs 6k miles. I have a 99WJ and i always used regular Castrol GTX in it, so i am not sure what to use in the WK. Any help is highly appreciated

Synthetic oil can usually be run longer than conventional, can provide better fuel economy, and can help reduce wear during cold starts because it will flow better at cold temps. As long as the oil you use has the API logo on it it will provide adequate, warranty level protection. I have always ran synthetic because it lasts longer and is better in cold Minnesota winters. Also make sure you get a decent oil filter, mobil 1 or purolator are good, avoid fram. For oil brands I have used and recommend valvoline synpower, mobil 1, and Castrol syntec. I have heard good things about royal purple but it's expensive.

^x2 very good thorough answer. It really boils down to personal preference. That being said I use synthetic in all my rides. My main reason for doing so is that my cars/trucks seem to run smoother and quieter.

Synthetics do not breakk down as quickly and are great for cold start ups, where most engine wear occurs. I would not recommend RP oil; tried it and motor ran rougher and louder; Valvolilne synpower is what I now use and is much better; smoother, quieter. better mpg. RP clalims for HP is BS marketing. If it were truthful, race teams wouuld use it, but no NASCAR, Indy, FI etc.. teams use RP that I have seen.
