I'm not. I've been messing with fuel, tuning, and trying to make things go fast for 10 years. I've had a few disappointments in that time frame, but I am always learning. I've done reasonably well with everything I have helped out with, from tuning ATVs to a turbocharged 370ci Hemi Ram I recently did porting for.

It doesn't take a scientist to figure out that the EPA has been placing more pressure on oil companies to add more and more additives and detergents to their fuels. Why? Emissions and because they can. Not to mention that these detergents take the place of actual fuel molecules. Scientists also concluded that the planets revolved around the sun, the earth was flat and that global warming was an undeniable fact!

I can tell you most valves never look like they do in those stupid commercials. Newer engines also burn much cleaner thanks to various measures of improving engine efficiency, including better head design and valve/injector timing. Are today's fuels "cleaner" than they were 30 years ago? Yeah, probably, but they are more diluted and watered down with power- and mileage- robbing chemicals and compounds than back then, no question. I am frequently going through tune logs and guys that are running the fuels you talk about are picking up more spark knock than others. Not coincidental. I typically refer guys to run Mobil/Exxon and Sunoco.

If you have dirty intake valves, which many oil companies' fuels claim to clean up, which could very well be true, the only problem with this logic on new engines is that the fuel injector squirts fuel like a freaky date right into the back of the intake valve. This is typically happening while the piston and in some cases the exhaust valve is sucking the intake charge HARD into the combustion chamber. So if everything mechanically is working as it should, it's not like that fuel is just chillin' on the backside of the valve, it's just being sent in the general direction of it, and picked up immediately by the passing intake charge.

Direct Injected engines inject fuel right into the combustion chamber directly, skipping the throttle body , intake port, and valve entirely.

http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images...37zf5.jpg/sr=1

This is a 3.7 head. Note how the injector ports are seated deep in the intake port, near the intake valve.

My point is that if you take care of your engine, via frequent oil changes, and perhaps even an occasional Seafoaming, none of this stuff should even be necessary. Optimizing AFR/spark advance, using good oil, keeping blow-by oil out of your engine (and causing gunk) by using a catch can, and making sure your injectors themselves are clean will do far more than any of these additives and detergents will.

You can have your detergents, I'll take my mileage and power.

Re: SCT Tuner for the 3.7L!!! ohhh yeah!!

I never have to use sea foam. Just frequent oil changes. And I'll stick with Shell gas. I'd rather go by the judgment of highly educated "scientists" that do this every day.

I know you are a bad ass tuner. Don't get me wrong but that's just my personally preference.

Also, the studies show and proved that Exxon you referring people to use the same amount of additives as Shell so......

And Shell and BP is all we have around here. Everything else is Walmart, Kroger, Chevron, or something of that nature.

Overall percentage of detergents to fuel, sure, but once you start comparing what detergents, additives etc they are using, etc, they are still different, unique fuels. Because of the EPA detergents in fuels is a fact of life.

If theres any additive that should be used with proven benefit, it is lead. This is why you see lead, and hardly any of this other stuff in Aviation fuel.

Re: SCT Tuner for the 3.7L!!! ohhh yeah!!

Hey Guys,

Does this make sense to anyone? I'm basically just looking for the SCT tune, but I'm kind of confused with what he he saying about SCT vs. Predator vs. Itunes devise.

------------------------------------------------------------------
SCT will do the '06 JGC and Diablo will do it with their Predator or the new InTune device. The InTune device is about the size of a cell phone. SCT is cheaper because Diablo has a good datalogger with their device. Let me know if you've researched both and decided on the SCT or not.

I'm guessing this was an email exchange you had with Sean aka Hemifever?

I had talked to Diablo about 3 weeks ago regarding 3.7/4.7 tuning support for the Jeeps and their stance was "it's coming" but had no ETA. So unless they felt like surprising me I don't think that info is correct. It's not on the recently revised Intune support list.

*IF* 3.7s can now be tuned with Diablo, I can do it...

Hey Ryan,

That is correct, it was an email exchange I had with Sean.

I think all I want/need is the SCT tuner, as it seems more economical as well.

Eh, when tuning even for a mild setup the Datalogging is REALLY nice to have. SCT doesn't have any of that, so part throttle tuning is much harder. Of course, you can purchase a separate datalogger, but at that point.....

Sean tuned my old setup, he has a nice library of files and is a good guy.

A predator and the cable you need to load a tune can be had for dirt cheap used, I've seen several for ~200.
