Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

The SRT manifolds arrived today! Man they look so much better than the stock log. The mandrel bent 90's should arrive by Wednesday. Now i just need to find some bolts and nice tips for this.

Also a point i have yet to mention is im going to do the pinch weld fold mod toward the back to gain another 1.25" height for the pipe. I'd imagine if doing the one on the corner up front where all the weight is, isnt a problem, then the back shouldnt be as well right?!!

Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

Well i got the drivers side on and it fits!! I got the top 4 bolts on, not sure how im going to get the 4 lower bolts in but i'll figure that out in the morning. The dipstick tube seems to be touching the manifold but it seems like it would be easy to bend it out of the way.

Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

Well i started at 7am and its 11:30am now. Break time! I got all of the bolts in, just need to find a way to tighten the last 3 on the lower drivers side. Also i had to fire up the sawzall on part of the transmission on the passenger side. I too about an inch off but its not as bad as it sounds. Im really hoping to get this wrapped up soon, i'd like to get to the muffler shop before they close today

Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

ok its 5pm and im done. Man that kicked my butt!! I still need to get it to the muffler shop. I started it thinking i could drive it there but its way too loud. I have the manifolds and mid pipes and thats it. No cats of mufflers at the moment. I do have the pre cat O2 sensors in though. Im thinking im going to have to have it towed I only got 15 of the 16 header bolts in. I think it'll hold until i have the cam swap done. Ill have them put that last bolt in when they pull the heads. There's no way i could reach it.

Im sure once it's all said and done im going to be really happy with the results but man if you plan to try this be prepared, its a handful!

These pics dont show too much but you can kinda see where i cut off part of the tranny

Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

lol Tow truck will be here in 45mins. My neighborhood is pretty calm and this thing sounds like a NASCAR right now. I ran it for 2 weeks with just the stock manifold and cats, no muffler. This thing is more than 3 times as loud as that. I assume the cats must have quieted it down some and i sure these manifolds make a bit more noise. Should be finished today though!

Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

Well i got it in for now. Still no tips, just turndowns for now. He didnt think my idea of having 2 secondary cat O2 sensors was going to work which i think is bs! Now i need to get an O2 sensor extension. So right now im only throwing a code for the drivers side secondary O2 but oh well. Im sure i can find the extension somewhere.

So im glad i got the mid pipes from the stock SRT setup. We did end up making new ones, but we cut off the 2 bolt flange and mated it up with the hedman connection pipes i bought. I couldnt find a 2 bolt flange anywhere with a 5.25" center to center hole pattern.

It sounds alright. I was a little scared to floor it as im affraid of what im going to melt under the hood, there were plenty of tight fits! Also its much quieter than i expected, but then again i have to remember what i was driving around with for the last week or two which was basically cats and nothing else. It may be loud outside but it's so much quieter inside which i great! Also im not really a believer in the butt dyno, but it really does feel faster with the new exhaust manifolds. I dont think i gave more than 25% throttle on the way home and it was moving!

Here you can see where i recycled a bunch of the stock heatshielding
