Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

Thanks! Im always a bit nervous with exhausts. Im sure im going to love it, its just a different sound being true dual with no crossover, and like i said i havent really gotten on it at all yet.

So far ive had:
-Stock
-Stock SRT8
-Stock SRT8 with a dual in dual out magnaflow added
-Stock SRT8 with a dual in dual out magnaflow and a cutout added
-Stock 5.7L cut off after the cats
-SRT Manifolds with pypes cats and pypes M-80 mufflers

I think with a mean cam the current setup is going to sound bad ass!
And as soon as i can find a tip setup i like i'll finish that part as well. I spent too much time on the side skirts not to use that hole i made!

Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

Nice so i can buy a set of kooks headers and install to my 5.7 Jeep? thats nice, your mod of dual exaust its to preaty but i think it needs more efort. And since i buy the magnaflow cat system i just dont want to waste it.

Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

I ordered my O2 extension Monday, so this weekend ill get the other O2 sensor installed and probably grind some more of the tranny on the passenger side I think i need to take off another 1/4" I'll probably also trim the pinch weld while im down there and maybe get this thing finished up.

There's nothing wrong with the magnaflow system, i just wanted equal length exhaust for each side of the engine. Also the kooks, AR, etc headers are around $1000-1200. I put the stock SRT manifolds on which are a huge improvement over the stock log for $170ish? I'd rather do SRT exhaust manifolds and save the extra $$ for a new cam

Yea im just not sure where to put it. Maybe run it below the tranny in front of the skid plate? But then it'd end right at the 90 bend.... I'll look at it this weekend

Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

Why would it need a H pipe by chance?

Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

They are supposed to equalize the back pressure and promote a scavenging effect. The pulse of exhaust from one cylinder sucks the exhaust out of another. X pipes are even better and typically give 2-5more hp than an H pipe. From what i gained from having equal lengths and the exhaust manifolds im fine giving up 5-8hp i could gain from an H pipe if there's nowhere to put it. I'll look again, if theres a way to add it im all for it but not if it's going to be a pain

Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

So what exhaust gasket did you use? The one from the 5.7 or the 6.1?

My understanding too, is people with 09 and later jeeps, the exhaust ports on the head are the same shape as the 6.1... Can anyone confirm that? I know the intake's are the same (09 and later) as the 6.1
