My understanding too, is people with 09 and later jeeps, the exhaust ports on the head are the same shape as the 6.1... Can anyone confirm that? I know the intake's are the same (09 and later) as the 6.1

I went with the 6.1 gaskets. Since the 5.7 is smaller, there would be a bit of gasket with no header behind it and i was worried it could come off and get into the cats. I have also heard the 09+ hemi's have the same D shaped ports as the 6.1's but have no proof of this

Thanks man! It sounds good, definitely unique by not having an X or H pipe. I think once i get the exhaust out of the side it wont have so much drone in the cabin at hwy speeds. But no vids yet. I dont really want to get on it too much until i get the missing O2 sensor in and get this engine light off.

Speaking of getting it out of the sides. Guys dont laugh but i think this is an legitimate question. Marine grade exhaust is typically run through a rubber hose almost straight out of the headers, so it can obviously handle the heat. My questions is what if i used it for the last 6" of my exhaust to go from the back of the muffler to the tip? I understand it's not as immune to rocks and road debris hitting it at 60mph as steel tubing, but it sure would make getting that tip centered in the hole a lot easier, and with being after the muffler/cats there's really no danger if it did spring a leak. What do ya think? For $10 its prob worth a shot

Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

Would the rubber be used to line the tips up with the holes? I dont see why that woulding work... I am not sure the comparison between marine grade rubber and car exhaust, since boat engines are usually water cooled, those motors might run cooler, and have better cooling systems

However, what about header wrap? I have a portion of my exhaust Header wrapped because it was close to a plastic hose for something and I didnt want to melt it. It works great as far as disapating (spelling?) heat. I am able to touch the pipe thats wrapped right after I get done driving while the rest of the pipe is Stupid hot.

Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

Yea I think boats suck up fresh water and then spit the hot water out, wouldn't that be nice! Exhaust temps should be about the same though right? Especially where I'll be using it is a good 6' from the engine. I just want to cut as little of the rear pinch weld as possible and the hose would be easy to just bend as needed versus cut weld bend etc... I'm really thinking of doing a boat type tip as well. The flange would just bolt to the side skirt. If I tried getting a tip floating in the center of my 3" hole I bet I'd end up with quite a rattle everytime I hit a bump with a max of 1/4" space between the tip and the skirt the boat style would prevent that but could transfer more heat to the side skirt. Awww decisions decisions!

Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

Last I knew... our engines are water cooled as well There isn't much of a difference between the two on how the cooling system works.

I don't see why you can't fit the pipe then weld it right square with the hole. Plus you could make a hanger for it to be centered.

As far as the rubber hose... That would work as well...you going to make a cylinder to slide the hose onto? I'd think you'd still run into the centering problem with the hose.

Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

Well if i use the tips for a boat, they would pass through the sideskirt metal as if it were the fiberglass of a boat hull and not move. The hose would just be easier to work with and prob save some $$

Here are a couple tips, i would of course remove the flappers
