Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

Well now that the engine light is off.... I'll make on this weekend, probably tomorrow after i grind off more of that transmission!!

Also i just found out yesterday i got a new job out in Cleveland! I've been interviewing for it for about 3 months now so that was some good news. I hope the salt and snow dont turn my wk into a rust bucket. I'll have to make sure i keep these exhaust tips in good shape. Any Ohio members on here? Im not going to know anyone out there!

Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

That's an Outstanding job man I KNOW it will sound SICK...I want to try something a little different... from back in my day LOL the old Hooker style side pipes I had on a Vette. I've also seen them on ford cobras and I think on a Viper... they start with a header to the collector but the pipes stay separate and just stack together to pass down through same hole as the OEM pipe, usually there is a slip joint here and the pipes make a 90 degree turn the pipes flatten out to pass under the frame rail side by side then they make another 90 and twist into a 4" collector long enough to turn out just before the rear wheel... back in the day we didn't have cats but the muffler just fit inside the side pipe similar to a bike...If I can't find or make something like that... Like you did will work for me too. Excellent Job man, can't wait to hear the vid

Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

Thanks again guys, its going fairly well so far. I got the tracking # on the tips and they wont be here until Thursday On a good note i was able to cut away more of the transmission housing without having to remove the passenger side header which saved me a lot of time and took care of the rattle from the header touching the transmission. One thing i really liked was how easy it was to pull off the cat back part of the entire passenger side exhaust system. 2 bolts at the header and pop off the rubber hanger and the whole thing comes off in one piece.

On a not so happy note i did get a new engine light this morning. I think it was P0401, Insufficient EGR flow. Im really surprised this light didnt come on over the last week. So now that i've blocked off the egr port with the SRT headers, do i need to do something electrical to keep the light from coming on? Guess i'll do some searching on EGR deletes.

Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

Looks like they did a nice job on the welding and that looks and is super nice to have a system that you can just pop off lol. I dunno if a jumper would work for the EGR?

Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

im pretty sure the diablo sport tuner can turn off the EGR. I know billet tech has a block off plate, and they said that all it does it block it and you would need a tuner to turn off the code from coming through

What cats are you using? and what are you using to cut the trans so it doesnt hit?

Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

I am using Pypes high flow cats. They were a nice polished stainless for a while but yea the heat has colored them now. I used a rip saw with a bi metal blade to cut the transmission. Actually that cut through half and then it needed to be recharged (cordless), so i did the rest with a hacksaw by hand. It's pretty soft metal so it's not too hard to trim off.

From what i've read on diablos' website and a few others, the EGR can be turned off with a custom tune only. They couldnt put that option in the predator/trinity as it's illegal to turn off any of that emissions stuff. Im really hoping Racing Solutions will tune this thing before i move to Cleveland. I'll just have them remove the egr during that tune.

Thanks for the info... How much of the trans did you have to cut off? Was it just shaving it? Your talking about the trans pan right or the actual housing?

Also, cleveland... The mistake on the lake but really, I go there about 5 times every winter to ride a huge bike park in the city. Its an awesome place if you are into mountain biking or BMX. Would you be downtown or in the burbs?

Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

The job is in Mentor, about 20 miles east of Cleveland. I've been looking at a couple places in downtown Cleveland to live but i'll wait until i see them in person before committing to a location. Mentor looks nice, but i kind want to be in the middle of what little action there is going on around there. When i lived in Downtown Dallas i was in a 1 bedroom on the 21st floor and it was $1500/mo. In Cleveland there is a 2 story penthouse for $1800/mo! I dont need a 3 bedroom 2 story penthouse, but it's pretty cool what you can get for the $$$ out there. I found a fairly new condo on a 10th floor for $950 which assuming it's as nice in person as in the pics is probably where i'll end up living.

In this pic you can see what i cut off. It's kind of like a mirror image of where the starter goes, just on the passenger side. It looks like this would be used to bolt up to the motor or something but in the WK application it's not used.Maybe on some other vehicle that shares the same tranny? You can see just ahead of the red line a mark from the saw where i was cutting. Well I ended up going back and taking off another 1/4", so just behind the red line would probably have been perfect. Also if you go a little to far and get into the housing its ok. There's not any fluid or anything in there, that's where the torque converter lives. Just like when you pull the starter there's not fluid gushing out. I got into the cavity of the housing a little bit but just put some of my metallic self adhesive heat shielding over it to keep out and possible water or dirt.

Re: Side Exhaust + Shorty Headers Project

The tips arrived today! I tried sticking one in the hole and it made it about halfway before hitting something. I figured the back side was going to need to be cut anyway. They are pretty big. 4.125" outer diameter at the end of the tip. I was worried 2.75 was going to be too small, now im worried these will be too big but im definitely going to give them a shot.
