Re: SRT exhaust manifold install today!

So I finally got the flanges yesterday, they look like they'll seal a LOT better than the bell style flanges my local guy made. I just need to figure out how/where to weld these to on my Frankenstein mid pipes. WTF is it with Mopar and their love of dual walled pipes?? If I do end up taking the center green colored pipe out its going to be a major PITA especially on the driver's side with the curve in it. Going to swing by the shop this morning for an R&D session, but with my work schedule I probably won't be able to pull the trigger on this for a week or two.

Re: SRT exhaust manifold install today!

The final chapter in my SRT manifold saga? At the shop again today to do the chop and swap of our fabricated flanges with the SRT chopped flanges. It was very clear where the leak points on the fabricated flanges were with black exhaust streaks. Pictures to follow...

Re: SRT exhaust manifold install today!

These are the old shop made flanges we chopped off. You can see clearly where the leak points were. Hindsight is a mother, would have saved myself about $500 in labor if I had the SRT flanges in hand at the time of install. It's not easy to find these flanges but it is possible with diligence and a lot of phone calls. You'll be hard pressed to fabricate long lasting flanges that mate to the SRT manifolds. Hope all these posts help someone!

Re: SRT exhaust manifold install today!

So far so good! After about a month there seems to be no more leaks (at least none bad enough to cause sound or throw codes). I really wish I had the foresight to find the proper flanges at the beginning, would have saved me about $800 in labor rework costs. I was able to make it to the dragstrip and dial in a consistent 14.14 but I think that's about as good as I'm going to get. My only concerns now are for my trans, as I had a "friend" look at the tune and they said that while the power production part was fine, there was a LOT changed on the trans side. So I plan on beating the hell out of it, my extended warranty lasts till 2017, hopefully I can get a new trans put in on the stealerships dime just before then.
The only two options it seems I have left would be a stroker kit or a supercharger, both of which seem to be in the $10K ballpark and would most certainly void my warranty.

Re: SRT exhaust manifold install today!

I hear you on the blower and the transmission. While it would be nice to put a huffer on it, the price is out of sight and the early engine won't take enough boost to make it worthwhile. If you're going to do a lot of racing, you might try a good set of big valve heads (about $2000-2500), an aftermarket cam (about $500+ install), and a 100 shot of nitrous oxide (about $400-500). That would probably put you down into the mid/high 12's, and for sure make it even more fun to drive. I am pretty much done messing with mine unless I blow something up. Then I'll still stay NA, but will up the displacement to at least 392 or maybe a little more, and do a few other good things to it.

Go check out my build thread. Why didn't you go with long tube headers? Would have been a lot cheaper
